Wrexham 2 Grimsby Town 2 Sat 14th April 2012

After Wrexham taking a point off Fleetwood on Easter Monday and then Fleetwood only managing another draw against York City on Friday night after being 2-0 down there was still a glimmer of hope that Wrexham could still win the title if they won the rest of their games ans Fleetwood lost all theirs, highly unlikely bit possible. A crowd of over 3,000 at The Racecourse watched a cracker of a match with Wrexham hitting the bar inside the first ten minutes before taking the lead halfway through the first half with an own goal from a corner and that's how it was at half time with Wrexham in total control and really could have been 3-4 goals up instead of just the one goal.
2nd half kicks off and looks like Wrexham have stayed behind in the changing rooms as its all Grimsby now and in the 63rd minute they deservedly equalise with a headed goal from a corner.
Ten minutes later Wrexham score a second through Chris Westwood and with just nine minutes left to hang on for a victory Wrexham concede a poor second goal with shot from the edge of the box by their substitute Andoij and that's how it finished 2-2 meaning Fleetwood now couldn't be caught and had won the league although Wrexham had taken 4 points off the big spenders.
Another great game for Glen Little though who was starting just his 2nd league game all season and I just don't understand why he hasn't played a lot more because this lad is quality and even got Man Of The Match. He may be getting on in terms of footballers years but still the best player on the pitch by a million miles, let's hope that Morrell now plays him in the play off's whoever we play.

The less said about this game the better as Wrexham were absolutely dreadful not managing a decent shot on target and got what they deserved from the game and that is nothing.
I fear we will not even get promoted via the play offs if Morrell insists on playing this same team with himself and Danny Wright up front because they just don't hurt the opposition as they have no pace and as for Steven Leslie in the middle of the park I have yet to meet a Wrexham fan who actually rates him.
Ever since we sold Obeng and dropped Cieslewicz to the bench then we have got no pace in the team and the opposition find it really easy to play against us.
Cieslewicz is not everyone's cup of tea but he scares defenders and nine times out of ten they usually end up with an early yellow card meaning they can't dive in rest of the game and we usually take advantage of this but at the moment we have no one in the team to cause the opposition any problems and unless Morrell changes it then
I fear we won't go up no matter who we play in the play offs.

Cambridge 1 Wrexham 1 Sat 31st March 2012

After a goalless first half it was Cambridge who came out all guns blazing and it wasn't longg before they took advantage of poor defending with their goalscorer running at Wrexham with them backing off and they give him enough room and time to shoot from the edge of the box for him to shoot home the first goal putting Cambridge 1-0 ahead.
With Wrexham now chasing the game they started leaving lots of gaps at the back and only for Mayebi it could well have been a lot more than 1-0 before Ogleby equalised for Wrexham in the 93rd minute to salvage a point which is not good enough as Fleetwood yet again won easily.
Must mention Glen Little though who came on as sub for Wrexham and showed his quality and just how good he is and he changed the way Wrexham were playing but he can't do it all by himself but if I was Morrell then he would be the first name on the team sheet every week.
Next up on Easter Friday is Alfreton at home at 3pm then the following Tuesday is potentially the biggest game in the Blue Square Premier with Wrexham travelling to Fleetwood with Wrexham having sold their ticket allocation of 700 already even though the match is being broadcast live on Premier Sports Tv. Fleetwood its gotta be said should really have allocated Wrexham another 1,000 tickets given their average home gates but obviously don't want more away fans than home fans at their hoem ground which for some strange reason is called Highbury and funnily enough they even play in red and white colours. Perhaps they think they are Arsenal

Wrexham 1 Forest Green 2 Sat 24th March 2012

After taking a well deserved lead through a Jake Speight penalty I was just waiting for a few more goals to boost our goal difference as there was only one team in it with Forest Green lacking any ideas of going forward. Before the first half ended Wrexham should have been awarded a second penalty but the referee who had already given one penalty bottled the decision big time and Wrexham went in at half time leading 1-0 and Fleetwood drawing 0-0 at home to Mansfield so at half time things were looking good.
Within a minute of the second half kicking off a great cross found Pogba 8 yards from goal with just the goalie to beat, but Pogba hit it first time with his left foot at what was basically an open goal but ballooned the ball miles over the bar when he really should have scored.
A few minutes later Jay Harris went off obviously injured and was replaced by a very ineffective Joe Clarke who probably had his worst game since he signed for Wrexham. Morrell then hit the bar from a header before disaster struck. Wrexham were awarded a throw-in halfway betweeen the dugout and the kop end and were just about to take it when the ref stopped it and made Wrexham wait a good 30 seconds as Forest Green were making a sub and even though it was clear the sub was not ready as the 4th official hadn't even put the board up, the ref made Wrexham wait and it cost us dearly as the throw in was taken and Forest Green got possession after a lack of concentration from the Wrexham lads and went down the other end and with their first shot on goal scored to make it 1-1 which stunned The Racecourse faithful followed by even worse in the 3rd minute of 4 minutes injury time Creighton was caught for pace and with Mayebi right on the edge of his 18 yard box with Creighton right by him somehow their striker got between the two of them and slotted the ball home from the edge of the box with only their 2nd shot of the game to totally stun everyone at The Racecourse including their own supporters, who not many made the trip but were celebrating wildly in the top of the Yale Stand and as Wrexham left the pitch losers Fleetwood had beat Mansfield 2-0 to open a 9 point gap at the top with Wrexham yet to play them at Highbury and two games in hand. The title now though is in Fleetwoods hands and not Wrexhams anymore.

Wrexham 2 Bath City 0 January 28th 2012

Wrexham having lost 1-0 in the week to Forest Green take on Bath City whilst hoping that Forest Green who were palying Fleetwood Town could also do them a favour and take a point from them which they couldn`t quite manage with Fleetwood equalising right on half time to make it 1-1 then scoring the winner in the 5th minute of injury time after the scoreboard at Wrexham had showed the score at 1-1 with most Wrexham fans cheering thinking it was the final result and not the latest score.
Anyway back to the Wrexham game and you really would find it hard to believe that Bath City were rock bottom as they played the most attractive football and ripped the Wrexham defence apart on some of their counter breaks. Bath obviously came here hoping to keep the score down playing five at the back, who Wrexham were finding it hard to break down but found the breakthrough in the 13th minute when a rn by Obeng on the right wing in front of  The Mold Road Stand attacking the empty kop who passed it to Speight on the edge of the box who held the ball up well then gave it back to Obeng who continued his run and with the goalkeeper to beat Obeng passed the ball into the keepers bottom right hand corner to give Wrexham an undeserved lead. It was still Bath who continued to create the better chances and Mayebi made two excellent saves during the first half to keep Wrexham 1-0 up going into the break but not before Jay Harris cleared the ball off the line when Mayebi came running out of his area trying to get to the ball before their striker only for Mayebi to miss the ball leaving an open goal but Jay Harris played a blinder by running to the goal line and clearing the ball off the line.
Second half was less than 3 minutes old when Wrexham were awarded a penalty and every Wrexham fan was hoping that Dean Keates would not take it having missed his last two penalties and luckily Speight was on the pitch who slotted the penalty home brilliantly putting it to the keepers left giving Wrexham a 2-0 lead. That was about it for the rest of the match because I found myself falling asleep once again so obviously nothing of any interest awoke me and now Wrexham have got a couple of weeks break which hopefully should give them chance to get their players fit again and it couldn`t have come at a better time.
Wrexham now lying 2nd and still looking good for promotion and also having signed Shrewsbury`s longest serving player Steven Leslie on Friday night who failed to get clearance to make it into yesterdays squad.

Wrexham 4 Kettering Town 1 Highlights 21st January 2012

After Wednesday`s extra time and penalty loss to Brighton another good crowd of over 4,000 turned up to witness what was one of the most boring matches I have seen for many a year and at one point during the 1st half I actually felt myself falling asleep as Kettering just had no interest in going forward but more interested in keeping the score down. Glen Little(my man of the match by a million miles) took a freekick on the corner of the 18 yard box, and somehow it just rolled along the floor and Morrell got a slight touch on it as it went through a pack of players who all missed it, and ended up in the back of the net.
The 2nd goal came in the second half with a cross and Creighton who was in the box stuck his leg out and hit the ball home for Wrexham`s 2nd goal. Kettering then had a man sent off for a 2nd yellow which if I am honest thought it was harsh but then a few minutes later Kettering broke away and scored an excellent goal to make it 2-1.
Glen Little making a rare start for Wrexham completely ran the show and Kettering just couldn`t get the ball of the veteran who showed just what a class player he is unlike Obi Anoura who came off the bench, managed to get caught offside several times and fouled the keeper when Glen Little`s free kick was destined for the top corner. He is not getting any better and its about time we released him and save on the wage bill because he is just dead wood and if we ever are desperate enough and need a striker to fill in as a replacement then obi is just not good enough.
Jay Colbeck maing his debut for the first team came off the bench with about 20 minutes left and managed to help himself to two goals.

Wrexham 1 Brighton 1 aet 4-5 to Brighton on Penalties

In front of over 8,000 Wrexham fans Wrexham put on a superb display and were extremely unlucky to go out on penalties with Brighton getting a huge help from the referee who shoul had wore a Brighton shirt as he gave them absolutely everything.
Back to the start and Wrexham started really well with Danny Wright having the game of his life in a Wrexham shirt causing their defenders all sorts of problems and Wrexham were really taking the game to their Championship opponents, although when Brighton broke they did so with their left winger terrorising Neil Ashton at left back but they still couldn't get a shot at goal.
With about 25 minutes gone it was Danny Wright again going down the left wing in front of The Mold Road Stand playing towards The Eric Roberts Stand who did brilliantly to not only keep the ball in but to get past a couple of players and laid it off to Morrell on the edge of the box who placed the ball in the top right corner or top left if you are the keeperto send the superb Wrexham supporters into a frenzy because that was one hell of a goal, perhaps even better than the Mickey Thomas goal 20 years ago against Arsenal. Wrexham thoroughly deserved their lead going into the break. This was not their first choice strike partners as Speight and Pogba were both out injured.
It looked like we were going to win the match 1-0 as Brighton still hadn't managed a shot on target with less than 15 minutes to go but the referee was giving Brighton every decision going and awarded Brighton a free kick which was never a free kick which Brighton them took 15 yards from where it should have been taken leaving Wrexham defence out of position and with their first shot on target Brighton scored a hugely controversial equaliser. With less than a minute to go after Wrexham had fluffed several chances they had a superb chance to win it in normal time with the Brighton keeper tipping over a Wrexham header onto the bar and behind for a corner which led to a few shots before Brighton got the ball and broke away but the ref blew for extra time once Brighton had lost the ball.
Extra time and in the first minute Wrexham had a great chance to score but were twice denied by blocks from the defence and keeper
It was one way traffic in the first half of extra time and the Brighton keeper got down low to tip a superb header which everyone thought was in go round the post for a corner and the racecourse was buzzing by now as Wrexham had Brighton well and tru. ly on the racks.
JDanny Wright was stretchered off with a bad shoulder injury and was replaced by Glen Little who had a superb match.
Second half of extras time and it was still all Wrexham who misssed several great chances but then Brighton had a break away and Mayebi did brilliantly to save from a one on one situation.
Penalties it was AMD sub Dean Neared went first smashing it straight at the keeper who saved it and that proved costly as no one else missed a penalty.
The best team lost and no one can deny it.

Wrexham v Brighton Replay Sold Out

Next weeks Fa Cup replay at The Racecourse between Wrexham and Brighton has nearly sold out with only a few tickets left for the lower tier of The Eric Roberts Stand which will be the first time it has been open for a long time, certainly the first time this season. Brighton have had 1,000 tickets and Wrexham have got 8,000 tickets so with a 9,000 capacity full house behind the team let's hope that they put a good display on.
I find it strange that most Wrexham fans and or people living in the Wrexham area seem to think its a foregone conclusion that Wrexham will win and play Newcastle in the next round. Brighton are a championship team and beat top of the league Southampton 3-0 the match before they played Wrexham and for Wrexham to draw 1-1 at Brighton was a superb result but the hard work is still to be done. I just hope that the fans who usually stay away but come to the big games get behind the team if we go a goal or two down and not boo them but hopefully it won't come to that. The one thing that does my head in when these once a season supporters turn up is when they don't know any of their names and then start slagging them off after one bad pass, get behind the team or don't bother coming to the match.
Remember we are still massive underdogs so if we lose then it is expected though I will be gutted but please don't turn up thinking Wrexham are going to win the game easily just because we drew at Brighton. Yes they made 6 changes to the team from the game before but remember we were also missing a few influential key players, especially Pogba who if fit and selected will cause the Brighton defence a load of problems along with Danny Wright who has split The Racecourse faithful, half of them love him and half think he is useless but he puts himself about even though he looks tired after ten minutes.
I just hope that they put more people on the food stalls and in the bar at top of Mold Road Stand as I wait 15 minutes to get served when there are 4,000 there so with 9,000 I think I will have a bite to eat and drink before the match otherwise I may be regretting it when half time comes and there are queues which are not moving.

Wrexham v Brighton Replay To Be Broadcast Live

The Fa Cup replay between Wrexham and Brighton next Tuesday is going to be broadcast live looks like on S4C which will bring some much needed revenue into the club.
S4C stepped in once they knew ITV and ESPN were going to broadcast other matches which is a surprise with Wrexham being the only non league team left in the competition.

Dean Saunders Transfers

Dean Saunders Transfers since becoming Wrexham manager in October 2008

Monday 8th Jun 2009

Kyle Is Latest To Leave

DEFENDER Kyle Critchell has agreed a deal which will see him leave the club with immediate effect, despite having a season left on his current contract, the necessary paperwork will be completed shortly.

The 22-year-old Wales U21 international had progressed through the youth and reserve teams at Southampton and also enjoyed a loan spell with Torquay United.

He left for Chesterfield in 2007 and was released by them after half a season, when he moved to Weymouth, his hometown club.

A move to Wrexham followed last summer, but he was suspended for the first three games of the season (following a red card in his final match with Weymouth) and then picked up an injury in training at the end of August.

After recovering from this ankle problem four months later, he said he was looking to be loaned out to help improve his first team chances at Wrexham. Joining fellow Conference side York City on a month's loan in early January 2009.

He was due to make his debut a day later against former club Weymouth, but the match was postponed due to the bad weather, before eventually made his first appearance after playing in the 2-1 victory over Oxford United ten days later.

His loan was extended for a second month on 4 February and finished with him making 11 appearances for the Minstermen.

Coming back to Wrexham in early March, Kyle then rejoined his local side Weymouth on loan until the end of the season. Playing eight times while with Weymouth, one bright spot as the Terras were relegated to the Conference South.

In total, Kyle only played two games for the Dragons, both last August.

He leaves with our best wishes and we hope he will soon be settled with a new club.

Tuesday 4th June 2009

Nat Brown has revealed he wants to leave the club so he can get first team football and not just sit and languish in the reserves. Personally I don`t think Matt has had much of a look in at Wrexham and maybe if he had had a decent look in then he would have made the centre back position his own as every time I saw him play, he always played quite a decent game so not sure if I am glad he is leaving or gutted. It`s one of them.

Tuesday 4th June 2009

Mark has signed a 12 month contract with a clause in it, which states that if after 4 months he has not done enough then Wrexham can tear up his contract and send Mark on his way.

Tuesday 19th May 2009

Levi Macken & Shaun Walley have both been released by Wrexham manager Dean Saunders. Both of them spent most of last season on loan at York City and Southport respectively but have been told they are no longer required at Wrexham. I am glad to see them both go as I thought both of them were uselesss footballers and have been very fortunate to be given a chance to play football for a living. If I was them I suggest they start looking for a proper job because they never going to make a decent living out of football as they are not good enough.

14th May 2009

Nathan Fairhurst joins Wrexham full time.

MIDFIELD player Nathan Fairhurst believes he has made the right choice by joining Wrexham, rather than staying with Championship club Preston North End.

The 19-year-old says the opportunity to play regular first team football with the Dragons is a better option rather than sit on the bench or play reserve team football at Preston where he was offered a new contract. I wish Nathan all the best and am sure that if he has a successful season then there will be a host of clubs trying to get his signature as he is too good to be playing non league football for more than a season.

Tuesday 5th May 2009

Jefferson Louis has left Wrexham by mutual consent with a year still left on his contract. The laziest footballer I have ever had the misfortune to watch play for Wrexham

Wednesday 29th April 2009

Gavin Ward - Keeper near the end of his career who served us well for 2 years.

Christian Gyan - The only match I seen him play, he was subbed at half time as he was shocking.

Anthony Williams - People claim he kept Wrexham in the league the season they beat Boston on the last day but he played about 12 games after coming in on loan and he was very lucky as all the shots in those 12 games came at a decent height and mae him look a better keeper than he was. Useless and good riddance.

Chris Marriott - Never saw him play.

Simon Spender - The promise he had as a youngster was never seen and was not good enough for Wrexham. Only reason he got a run in the team because Brian Little and Brian Carey don`t have a clue about playing football the proper way and thought he was the answer to someone with a bit of skill taking on players.

Christian Gyan

DRAGONS SIGN FRENCH DEFENDER06/02/2009French central defender Aurelien Collin, who played nineteen matches for Scottish League side Gretna last season, has signed for Blue Square Premier club Wrexham until the end of the season. Collin (pictured) joined Gretna from Spanish La Liga club Mallorca in August 2007, signing a two-year contract with the club, but he only made 19 appearances before he was released by the then-SPL club before the end of last season. Trials at Championship clubs Blackpool, Preston North End and Wolves failed to lead to a permanent deal being offered, and Collin signed a one-year contract at Greek Premier League side Panserraikos. "He's played at a higher level, he's aggressive and he's another centre half," said Wrexham manager Dean Saunders, who saw defenders Steve Evans and Shaun Pejic leave the club my mutual consent this week.

Christian Gyan

Christian Gyan (born 1978-11-02 in Tema) is a Ghanaian footballer who currently plays for Wrexham. Gyan signed for Feyenoord Rotterdam in 1996. During the following season the club send him on loan to Excelsior. After only a couple of months Feyenoord recalled the defender, and he made his debut for Feyenoord that same season. Gyan remained with Feyenoord for the next eight seasons. He was mainly used as a substitute. Gyan did play the 2002 UEFA Cup Final against Borussia Dortmund. He replaced the suspended Brett Emerton in the starting eleven. With Gyan Feyenoord went on to beat Dortmund 3-2. While at Feyenoord Gyan also won a Dutch League Championship and a Johan Cruijff Schaal.Gyan played 23 games for the national team of Ghana. In June 2008 Gyan completed a successful trial for the Finnish club Turun Palloseura, and he signed a 6-month deal with TPS on 3 June. In January 2009 Gyan signed for Wrexham until the end of the 2008-09 season.

Wrexham manager Dean Saunders yesterday strengthened his promotion-chasing squad by signing winger Jamie McCluskey and he is actively pursuing yet more targets to keep his players fresh for the final 10 weeks of the season.

Saunders said new boy McCluskey faced a battle for selection, but predicted he would quickly become a crowd-pleaser at the Racecourse.

"Jamie has joined us until the end of the season and if he does well we will give him a new deal next season.

"He has not played for a long time but the fans will love watching him. He is a very talented young player, but his first job is to force his way into the team. Once he has done that I’m sure he will become a crowd favourite."

McCluskey, at one time the youngest ever player to feature in the Scottish Premier League when at Hibernian, hopes his move to the Racecourse will finally launch a career blighted by injury. A twice-broken foot was at the root of the problem, but the 21-year old Scot is optimistic that the worst is behind him.

"I have only been here a week and a half and I’ve only trained with the other lads for three days," he said.

"This is a big opportunity for me to get back to playing regular football and I owe that to the manager and his staff who have all been great with me. I have been to Partizan Belgrade in Serbia and Catania in Italy, but I have not played for a year.

"Wrexham are obviously doing well, but I would not have signed for them unless I felt I had something to offer and I’ll be doing my best to break into the first team as quickly as possible."

17th February Andrew Crofts signs on as a Wrexham player Andrew Crofts

Wrexham FC sign Andrew Crofts

DEAN SAUNDERS has lured Wales star Andrew Crofts to the Racecourse – but the midfielder couldn’t prevent Wrexham slipping to a 2-1 defeat at Burton Albion last night.

Crofts, who has 12 international caps, made his debut in the Pirelli Stadium loss after completing a whirlwind loan switch from League Two side Gillingham hours before the game.

The signing provided Saunders some consolation after watching his side throw away a 1-0 advantage against the league leaders, with Jefferson Louis opening the scoring on 23 minutes.

And the manager believes Crofts has a glittering career ahead of him, having watched the midfielder at close quarters while on international duty with Wales.

In dispute with his club Gillingham, where his contract expires at the end of the season, the 24-year old has joined the Dragons until the end of the season in order to play regular first team football.

And the Racecourse boss is delighted to have secured the player’s services for Wrexham’s bid to bounce back into the Football League at the first attempt.

“He’s coming to help us in this final push for promotion,” said Saunders.

“I know his qualities from working with him at Wales and this boy could end up playing in the Premiership. He played against Holland last summer, where he made a good impression on the coaching staff.

“This is a major coup for us and shows the ambition of the chairman and myself in trying get Wrexham promoted out of this league.

“Andrew’s presence brings experience and strength to the squad and he will bring the best out of our younger players. He is a good, solid character and certainly no fancy-dan player because he rolls his sleeves up and gets stuck in.

“Andrew will definitely move onto better things. But it shows the boy’s character that he is will to come and help a Welsh club in the short term. He really is doing us a big favour.

“Both John Toshack and myself advised the player that a move to Wrexham would be a big help to both him and Welsh football.”

Crofts has also won under 19 and under 21 honours and was Gillingham’s player of the year last season. He made nearly 200 appearances for the Kent club, scoring 17 goals.

Wrexham have been busy in the transfer market again, albeit only on loan. A new goalkeeper which we need and another central defender which we definitely don`t need. A striker is what we desperately require but can`t seem to get one. Wrexham are in line to parade a new goalkeeper at Histon after International clearance was given to Gunnar Nielsen. The 22year old stopper has been signed until the end of the season from Manchester City, Gunnar is the third player Wrexham have acquired from City this season, following in the steps of Angelos Tsiaklis and Sam Williamson. The 6'3" stopper began his career with HB Torshavn, before moving to BK Frem Copenhagen in 2005. After making five Appearances, Gunnar was signed by Premier League Blackburn Rovers in July 2007 for an undisclosed fee. While at Rovers, he had a six month loan spell with Scottish Premier League outfit Motherwell, before moving onto Manchester City in a two and a half year deal. Obviously Mark hughes must rate him highly to bring him to Man City from Blackburn seeing as Man City already have two excellent goalkeepers. At 6 foot 3 he should be able to handle anything in the air which is what we desperately need. How many times have we lost to set pieces is un-real so hopefully this should put a stop to that. Assoumani signs for DragonsWrexham have announced the signing of defender Mansour Assoumani for the remainder of the season.Mansour is 28,and was born in Nice, France. He is 6 feet 2 inches and can play in central defence or right back. Assoumani began his career with French club Montpellier, making 74 appearances and scoring 4 goals in a five year stay. He has also played for German second division clubs Saarbrucken and Sportfreunde Siegen. In December 2008, Assoumani was offered a one month contract with First division Leeds United. He made one appearance while at Elland road, Playing in the 3-1 defeat against Milton Keynes Dons.Mansour was released by Leeds in January 2009, and trained with Crewe Alexandra but failed to secure a contract. At last we have some real height in our defence which is what we desperately required. I have now lost count of the number of players we have signed permanently or got on loan in the last two years. Surely we must be talking over 50 players. Geoff Moss surely must be congratulated on the money he has spent since taking over at Wrexham or sent to the nearest mental institution and strapped to the chair for his own well being and mental health because let`s face it, who else would have ploughed the amount of money into Wrexham during the last year or so. We must have had more players than Pamela Anderson has had ,well you know what she has had.
