Dean Saunders has released 4 players as he prepares for next season. The biggest casualty so far has to be Gavin Ward who to be fair to him, did not do much wrong but found himself dropped after Wrexham went on an amazing run of poor results but there are ten men in front of him, so to blame it on the goalkeeper which Saunders has done by dropping him and replacing him with that clown Anthony William now feels that his age is against Ward and he wants to freshen the place up.
Good luck to Gavin, wherever you end up playing near the end of his playing career.

Next match was a 5-0 loss to Accrington Stanley which was ultimately the turning point in Wrexham`s season and on last day of season against Boston they needed to win or hope other results go their way but half time Boston lead 1-0 but Wrexham staged a 2nd half comeback and scored 3 goals to keep Wxm in the league for one more year.

The presentations were made before kick off and the young player of the year and player of the year both went to Marc Williams who has been out for most of the season which says everything about the state of Wrexham`s current 1st team. He is the first player ever to win both the young player and player of the year award in same season at Wrexham.

We scored two goals for the first time since we beat Northwich Victoria 2-1 away but it would have been 5 or 6 if it were not for the heroics of Weymouth`s goalkeeper who made several magnificient saves to keep the score down.

Sam Aiston had a fantastic match but why has he not played like that all season beggers belief and another player who I thought was absolutely outstanding was Jamie McCluskey who is definitely championship quality. The weymouth players couldn`t get near him, his lay off`s, first touch, absolutely everything was first class and it`s just a shame that the season is over now that he is fit. The first goal was scored by Michael Proctor and the 2nd by Ryan Flynn after a great run by Sam Aiston set up Flynn who could hardly miss from just outside the 6 yard box. Darren Kempson had a free header 4 yards out and with the goal right in front of him missed an open goal by heading it over, he also made some silly mistakes none more so than early in the 2nd half when all he had to do was head the ball back to his keeper but decided to kick it and basically ended up falling over himself making himself look a right fool. Some of his first touches were shocking and he is one player that I definitely don`t want to see play for Wrexham again, a bit like Tom Kearney who had a shocking match and the less said the better about him.

Weymouth are a very poor team, let`s not forget that and for Wrexham to only score 2 goals against them tells you that there is a hell of a lot of work to be done this summer before we can even think about getting back into the football league. A striker or 5 must be number one on the shopping list for new players, because the strikers we have now are just not good enough.

Well it`s the last game of the season and what a season it has been. It started off fantastic with a 5-0 home win over Stevenage Borough under former manager Brian Little but things soon turned sour and the racecourse faithful had to watch some of the worst football ever played at The Racecourse in over hundred years, so out Little went after another midweek defeat, this time losing 3-0 and he had to have protection to stop Wrexham fans from getting to him. After a search for a new manager Dean Saunders (welsh legend) was unveilied as the new Wrexham manager and what a start he made. He officially became a record breaker for the most consecutive wins for a new Wrexham manager but then disaster struck, Marc Williams the centre forward was injured and worst fears were confirmed when it was realised he would miss the rest of the season and his replacement Matt Jansen the former Blackburn player who was seriously injured in an accident a few years ago was signed on the basis that he would ease himself back into the swing of things but after playing 3 gams on the run, scoring one goal at Northwich and he was then injured and out for rest of the season. The wheels firmly came off Wrexham`s promotion push and we cannot score a goal for love or money.
Some fans are now calling for Saunders to go because he cannot change the way the team plays once the side go 1-0 down, saying he does not the ability to change things around.

Anyway less than 4 hours to kick off for a nothing game to be played at the Racecourse against a Weymouth team who are already relegated from The Blue Square Premier.

Oh well at least we have a local derby next year with Chester relegated.

Kyle Is Latest To Leave

DEFENDER Kyle Critchell has agreed a deal which will see him leave the club with immediate effect, despite having a season left on his current contract, the necessary paperwork will be completed shortly.

The 22-year-old Wales U21 international had progressed through the youth and reserve teams at Southampton and also enjoyed a loan spell with Torquay United.

He left for Chesterfield in 2007 and was released by them after half a season, when he moved to Weymouth, his hometown club.

A move to Wrexham followed last summer, but he was suspended for the first three games of the season (following a red card in his final match with Weymouth) and then picked up an injury in training at the end of August.

After recovering from this ankle problem four months later, he said he was looking to be loaned out to help improve his first team chances at Wrexham. Joining fellow Conference side York City on a month's loan in early January 2009.

He was due to make his debut a day later against former club Weymouth, but the match was postponed due to the bad weather, before eventually made his first appearance after playing in the 2-1 victory over Oxford United ten days later.

His loan was extended for a second month on 4 February and finished with him making 11 appearances for the Minstermen.

Coming back to Wrexham in early March, Kyle then rejoined his local side Weymouth on loan until the end of the season. Playing eight times while with Weymouth, one bright spot as the Terras were relegated to the Conference South.

In total, Kyle only played two games for the Dragons, both last August.

He leaves with our best wishes and we hope he will soon be settled with a new club.

Nat Brown has revealed he wants to leave the club so he can get first team football and not just sit and languish in the reserves. Personally I don`t think Matt has had much of a look in at Wrexham and maybe if he had had a decent look in then he would have made the centre back position his own as every time I saw him play, he always played quite a decent game so not sure if I am glad he is leaving or gutted. It`s one of them.

Mark has signed a 12 month contract with a clause in it, which states that if after 4 months he has not done enough then Wrexham can tear up his contract and send Mark on his way.

Levi Macken & Shaun Walley have both been released by Wrexham manager Dean Saunders. Both of them spent most of last season on loan at York City and Southport respectively but have been told they are no longer required at Wrexham. I am glad to see them both go as I thought both of them were uselesss footballers and have been very fortunate to be given a chance to play football for a living. If I was them I suggest they start looking for a proper job because they never going to make a decent living out of football as they are not good enough.

Nathan Fairhurst joins Wrexham full time.

MIDFIELD player Nathan Fairhurst believes he has made the right choice by joining Wrexham, rather than staying with Championship club Preston North End.

The 19-year-old says the opportunity to play regular first team football with the Dragons is a better option rather than sit on the bench or play reserve team football at Preston where he was offered a new contract. I wish Nathan all the best and am sure that if he has a successful season then there will be a host of clubs trying to get his signature as he is too good to be playing non league football for more than a season.

Anthony Williams - People claim he kept Wrexham in the league the season they beat Boston on the last day but he played about 12 games after coming in on loan and he was very lucky as all the shots in those 12 games came at a decent height and mae him look a better keeper than he was. Useless and good riddance.

Chris Marriott - Never saw him play.

Simon Spender - The promise he had as a youngster was never seen and was not good enough for Wrexham. Only reason he got a run in the team because Brian Little and Brian Carey don`t have a clue about playing football the proper way and thought he was the answer to someone with a bit of skill taking on players.

Christian Gyan (born 1978-11-02 in Tema) is a Ghanaian footballer who currently plays for Wrexham. Gyan signed for Feyenoord Rotterdam in 1996. During the following season the club send him on loan to Excelsior. After only a couple of months Feyenoord recalled the defender, and he made his debut for Feyenoord that same season. Gyan remained with Feyenoord for the next eight seasons. He was mainly used as a substitute. Gyan did play the 2002 UEFA Cup Final against Borussia Dortmund. He replaced the suspended Brett Emerton in the starting eleven. With Gyan Feyenoord went on to beat Dortmund 3-2. Wrexham manager Dean Saunders yesterday strengthened his promotion-chasing squad by signing winger Jamie McCluskey and he is actively pursuing yet more targets to keep his players fresh for the final 10 weeks of the season.

Saunders said new boy McCluskey faced a battle for selection, but predicted he would quickly become a crowd-pleaser at the Racecourse.

"Jamie has joined us until the end of the season and if he does well we will give him a new deal next season.

"He has not played for a long time but the fans will love watching him. He is a very talented young player, but his first job is to force his way into the team. Once he has done that I’m sure he will become a crowd favourite."

McCluskey, at one time the youngest ever player to feature in the Scottish Premier League when at Hibernian, hopes his move to the Racecourse will finally launch a career blighted by injury. A twice-broken foot was at the root of the problem, but the 21-year old Scot is optimistic that the worst is behind him.

"I have only been here a week and a half and I’ve only trained with the other lads for three days," he said.

"This is a big opportunity for me to get back to playing regular football and I owe that to the manager and his staff who have all been great with me. I have been to Partizan Belgrade in Serbia and Catania in Italy, but I have not played for a year.

"Wrexham are obviously doing well, but I would not have signed for them unless I felt I had something to offer and I’ll be doing my best to break into the first team as quickly as possible."

DEAN SAUNDERS has lured Wales star Andrew Crofts to the Racecourse – but the midfielder couldn’t prevent Wrexham slipping to a 2-1 defeat at Burton Albion last night.

Crofts, who has 12 international caps, made his debut in the Pirelli Stadium loss after completing a whirlwind loan switch from League Two side Gillingham hours before the game.

The signing provided Saunders some consolation after watching his side throw away a 1-0 advantage against the league leaders, with Jefferson Louis opening the scoring on 23 minutes.

And the manager believes Crofts has a glittering career ahead of him, having watched the midfielder at close quarters while on international duty with Wales.

In dispute with his club Gillingham, where his contract expires at the end of the season, the 24-year old has joined the Dragons until the end of the season in order to play regular first team football.

And the Racecourse boss is delighted to have secured the player’s services for Wrexham’s bid to bounce back into the Football League at the first attempt.

“He’s coming to help us in this final push for promotion,” said Saunders.

“I know his qualities from working with him at Wales and this boy could end up playing in the Premiership. He played against Holland last summer, where he made a good impression on the coaching staff.

“This is a major coup for us and shows the ambition of the chairman and myself in trying get Wrexham promoted out of this league.

“Andrew’s presence brings experience and strength to the squad and he will bring the best out of our younger players. He is a good, solid character and certainly no fancy-dan player because he rolls his sleeves up and gets stuck in.

“Andrew will definitely move onto better things. But it shows the boy’s character that he is will to come and help a Welsh club in the short term. He really is doing us a big favour.

“Both John Toshack and myself advised the player that a move to Wrexham would be a big help to both him and Welsh football.”

Crofts has also won under 19 and under 21 honours and was Gillingham’s player of the year last season. He made nearly 200 appearances for the Kent club, scoring 17 goals.

Jonathan Brown

Jonathan David Brown (born 17 April 1990 in Bridgend) is a Welsh footballer currently playing for Wrexham on loan from Football League Championship side Cardiff City.

Brown was originally spotted by Liverpool scout Gwyn James but was unable to sign for the Merseyside club, due to a rule meaning youth players must sign with a team within one and a half hours of their home, so he recommended him to Cardiff City.^[1] Having worked his way through the youth system at Cardiff, Brown made his first team debut against Welshpool Town in the FAW Premier Cup where he scored the only goal of the game with a free-kick to send the Bluebirds into the semi-final^[2], becoming the first Bridgend-born player to play for Cardiff since Billy Rees.^[3] He made his league debut for Cardiff on 12 February 2008 against Coventry City when he came off the bench in the closing minutes and made a second appearance later in the season, coming on as a substitute again during a 3-1 win over Blackpool. At the end of the season he was rewarded with a one year deal at the club, his first professional contract. Brown is the latest in a long line of recent youth players who have broken into the first team with the Bluebirds such as Joe Ledley, Chris Gunter, Darcy Blake and Aaron Ramsey.

Loan at Wrexham

Having not made an appearance for Cardiff during the 2008-09 season, Brown joined Wrexham on a two-month loan deal.^[4]^[5] He made his debut on 29 November in a 2-1 win over Stevenage Borough, setting up Jefferson Louis to score Wrexham's first goal before being replaced after 88 minutes by Shaun Whalley.^[6] He got his first goal for the club in his very next game when he scored in the 90th minute to give Wrexham a 2-1 win over Kettering Town.^[7] On christmas eve, Brown was involved in a road accident while travelling back to Wrexham. On his way back from South Wales, Brown's car overturned near Welshpool and he was forced to break one of the vehicles windows in order to escape. Brown kept the incident a secret from Wrexham manager Dean Saunders until after he had played against Barrow on boxing day two days later.^[8]

Having been a first team regular during his initial loan spell, in early January it was confirmed that his loan deal had been extended by one month^[9] and at the end of the January transfer window the two clubs agreed for the loan deal to last until the end of the season.^[10] After the extended deal was agreed, manager Dean Saunders praised the impact Brown had at the side since arriving at the North Wales side.^[11] In his next game for the club, Brown scored his fourth goal of the season when he scored direct from a free-kick as Wrexham won 3-2 over Grays Athletic.^[12]

Simon Brown

Mansfield - November 2008 he joined Rushden & Diamonds on loan until January 2009 He made his debut in a 4–0 victory over Altrincham and returned to Wrexham following the expiry of the loan on 5 January, making three appearances for Rushden.^[20]^[21]

He was involved in a controversy when he wrote a message on the Facebook profile of Wrexham teammate Christian Smith, which regarded Wes Baynes's contract situation at the club, and caused an angry reaction by the fans.^[22] Following the completion of his loan spell at Rushden, he was set to join York City on loan.^[23] The move was completed on 15 January, when he signed for the rest of the 2008–09 season.^[24] He made his debut in a 3–0 victory against Lewes on 17 January as a right midfielder.^[25] He featured as a striker as part of a 4-3-3 formation in a 1–1 draw with Altrincham on 27 January.

Jefferson Louis

joined Wrexham in June 2008, and is the at the moment the club's top socrer, with 13 goals in all competitions, 12 of them coming in the league.^[5]

Louis represented Dominica in a World Cup Qualifier against Barbados in March 2008, which Dominica lost 1-0.^[6] Louis played up front with his cousin,^[7] Richard Pacquette in this match.

Shaun Whalley

On June 18, 2008, after being released by Accrington Stanley, he joined Conference side Wrexham.

Tom Kearney

In June 2008, he joined Conference National side Wrexham.^[1] His sister is actress Gillian Kearney. Brown joined league two side Macclesfield on a month's loan in November 2008, and found himself something of a goalscoring touch, by scoring in his first three league games. On 1 January 2009 it was announced that Nat had signed a loan deal until the end of the season due to the good performances he had been putting in for Macclesfield Town

Neil Roberts

He started his career in 1994 when he played for Wrexham making 75 appearances and scoring 17 goals. He left Wrexham in 2000 to join Wigan Athletic, where he made 125 appearances and scoring 19 goals. He also spent two loan spells at Bradford City and Hull City before making a permanent move to Doncaster Rovers in 2004.

In 2006 Roberts came back to his hometown club Wrexham, where he became the team captain. He is a Welsh international with four caps. Roberts had a good start to the 2006–07 season by scoring two goals in the first two games. These goals were very important during this period as they were a penalty in a 2–1 away victory against local rivals Chester City on 20 August 2006 and the opening goal in Wrexham's 4–1 League Cup victory at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday on 23 August 2006.

However, in their 2–1 victory against Swindon Town on 9 September 2006, Roberts picked up an injury. He made his comeback in a 2–1 defeat against Milton Keynes Dons scoring the opening goal. However, Roberts suffered more injuries throughout the course of the season. On 21 April 2007 he came on as a second half substitute in a game against Torquay United and scored his first goal since October 2006 and Wrexham's winning goal to ensure a vital 1–0 win in Wrexham's bid for survival in the Football League Two. He was released by Wrexham in May 2008 following the club's relegation to the Football Conference.^[1]

On 24 June 2008, Roberts signed for Welsh Premier League side Rhyl, where he will combine playing with coaching opportunities and his business interests.^[2]

Chris Llewellyn

A product of the Norwich City youth team, Chris broke into the first team at Norwich in the 1997-1998 season making a total of 16 appearances with 3 goals. During this season he gained Welsh B and under-21 honours. He later won full honours and made his Welsh debut against Malta in 1998.

Due to poor form in the 2002-03 season, however, he lost his place and went on loan to Bristol Rovers; he was released in June 2003 from Norwich. Chris signed for Wrexham and a strong 2003-04 season saw him recalled to the Welsh squad in May 2004 and come on a sub to win his 3rd cap against Norway.

Later, he signed for Hartlepool but only stayed one season and returned on a free to Wrexham on June 29th 2006.

Chris scored his first international goal for Wales against Liechtenstein in November 2006 alongside his ex Norwich City strike partner Craig Bellamy.

On the final day of the 2006-2007 season, Wrexham needed to avoid defeat against Boston United to avoid relegation to the non-league. After coming from 1-0 down, Chris Llewellyn scored the goal which handed the Red Dragons a 2-1 lead before they eventually winning 3-1 and preserving their Football League Two status. He was released by Wrexham in May 2008 following the club's relegation to the Football Conference,^[1] and joined Grimsby Town on a two-year contract in July 2008.^[2] He made his league debut in the opening game of the season, in the goalless draw with Rochdale.

Danny Williams

Williams started his football career in 1997 at the age of 18 as a trainee at Liverpool. In 1999 other clubs started to have interest in Danny especially his own birthplace of Wrexham.

Wrexham signed Danny on 23 March 1999 making nearly 38 appearances. He was released in 2001 by manager Brian Flynn and joined Doncaster Rovers later that year, he stayed a month on loan until he was transferred to Kidderminster Harriers lasting three years at the club. In 2004 he made a few changes, returning north by joining Chester City on loan, who were on the verge of winning the Nationwide Conference title.

However, Williams opted to join Bristol Rovers in March 2004, before returning to Wrexham a couple of months later.

Danny is the son-in-law of former Welsh international goalkeeper Brian Lloyd, who also played for Wrexham and Chester.

He was released by Wrexham in May 2008 following the club's relegation to the Football Conference,^[1] and joined Welsh Premier League club Rhyl.^[2]

Mark Jones

He joined Wrexham as a trainee on 1 August 2002. He made his debut in the 2002-03 season, but only became an established player 2 seasons later. He has become particularly popular at the club as one of the most talented local players, and as a scorer of some spectacular long-range goals. Despite being a midfielder, he was one of the club's most regular goalscorers, with a ratio of 0.2 goals per game as of the end of the 2005-06 season.^[1].

Following Wrexham's relegation from Football League Two, Jones, who had already declared his intention to leave the club, was released at the end of the 2007–08 season.^[2]

After a successful trial at the club, Rochdale announced on August 15, 2008 that they were seeking international clearance in order to complete the signing of Jones. On the Saturday 6th September Rochdale confirmed Mark Jones will wear the number 27 shirt,

International career

As well as making several appearances for Wales Under-21's, he has been called up to the senior Wales squad on two occasions. He made his international debut in a friendly against Liechtenstein on 14 November 2006.

Jones was named in the Wales squad ahead of more experienced players, such as Robert Earnshaw, for games against Iceland and the Netherlands in the summer of 2008.

Jeff Whitley

Whitley joined Manchester City as a ten year old and began his club career as a trainee in 1996, making over 120 league and cup appearances for the first-team.^[2] He had a two-month loan spell at Wrexham in the 1998–99 season.^[2] and in March 2002, having fallen out of favour at Manchester City, joined Notts County on loan for the remainder of the 2001–02 season.^[3] He had a three-month loan spell at Notts County in the 2002–03 season, returning to Manchester City in January 2003^[4] but was released by the club in March 2003 as he did not feature in manager Kevin Keegan's plans.^[5]

After a trial^[6] and impressing in pre-season, he signed a contract with Sunderland in August 2003.^[7] He made over 70 league and cup appearances for Sunderland,^[2] helping the club to the Football League Championship play-offs at the end of the 2003–04 season^[8] and to the Football League Championship title in 2005.^[9] In July 2005, he joined Cardiff City on a free transfer^[10] and made 38 league and cup appearances for the club in the 2005–06 season.^[11] Whitley joined Stoke City on loan in August 2006^[12] but made only four appearances^[13] in an unsuccessful loan spell.^[14] Cardiff made him available for transfer but he did not take up offers to talk with Millwall and Rotherham^[14] and joined Wrexham in February 2007 on loan for the remainder of the 2006–07 season.^[15] He scored the winning goal against Bristol Rovers in a 1–0 away victory in March 2007.^[16] He was released by Cardiff and signed for Wrexham on non contract terms in January 2008^[17] but was released by Wrexham in May 2008 following the club's relegation to the Football Conference

International career

Despite being Zambian born, due to Whitley living in England since he was a child, he was eligible to, and played for the England under-17 team. As his father was born in Belfast, he was also eligible to play for Northern Ireland and made his debut for them in 1997.^[19]

Phil Bolland

On 8 January 2008 it was announced Bolland had been released by Chester^[3] and he quickly agreed terms with Wrexham. He was released by Wrexham in May 2008 following the club's relegation to the Football Conference^[4] and signed for Cambridge United on 31 July 2008 where he would be reunited with former teammates Gary Brabin and Paul Carden, manager and assistant manager of the Conference side.

Mike Carvill

Carvill came through the youth ranks at Charlton Athletic but was released by the club in January 2007 without making a first-team appearance.^[1] After his release from Charlton, Carvill joined Welsh club Wrexham^[2] and made 14 appearances in the Football League in the 2006–07 and 2007–08 seasons.^[3] He was released by Wrexham in May 2008 following the club's relegation to the Football Conference,^[4] and joined Irish Premiership club Linfield in August 2008.^[5]

Carvill has represented Northern Ireland at under 17 level, where he is his country's record goalscorer,^[1] under 19 level^[2] and under 21 level.^[1]

Matty Done

He started his career at Wrexham and broke into the first team squad at the start of the 2006-07 season, having made a handful of substitute appearances the previous season. His debut came a month after his 17th birthday, as a substitute in a home defeat to Doncaster Rovers. He made his full debut on the last day of the season against Darlington.

His first goal for Wrexham came against Grimsby Town, and he went on to score against Sheffield Wednesday during a 4-1 win in the League Cup.

He was offered a new contract by Wrexham in May 2008 following the club's relegation to the Football Conference.^[1] However, he choose to stay in the Football League and signed for League One club Hereford United for an undisclosed fee in June 2008.

Richard Hope

Richard Paul Hope (born 22 June 1978) is an English footballer who is unattached after being released by Grimsby Town in February 2009. Hope was released by Shrewsbury and joined Wrexham in June 2007.^[11]^[12] He made 35 league and cup appearances for Wrexham in the 2007–08 season but was transfer listed by Wrexham in May 2008 following the club's relegation to the Conference National.^[13] He returned to League Two with a move to Grimsby Town on a two-year contract in June.^[14] His contract at Grimsby was cancelled by mutual consent on 7 February 2009, departing Blundell Park after only featuring seven times during the 2008–09 season.^[15]

Carl Tremarco

Carl Tremarco joined Wrexham in January 2008 until the end of the season after the club bought out the remaining four months of his contract with Tranmere.^[7] Following Wrexham's relegation to the Conference National in May 2008, he was out-of-contract but was offered and signed a two-year contract with the club Carl Tremarco (born 11 October 1985 in Liverpool) is a professional footballer currently playing as a left back for Darlington, on loan from Wrexham. He previously played for Tranmere Rovers.

Levi Mackin

Mackin progressed through the youth system at Wrexham and made his first team debut in a 1–1 draw at Wycombe Wanderers in May 2004.^[2]^[3] He broke into the team during the 2004–05 season and signed his first professional contract at the end of the season.^[4]^[5] He made almost 50 appearances for Wrexham but having played only once since September 2007, he joined Conference National side Droylsden on loan in January 2008,^[2] where he made 12 appearances, before returning to Wrexham in April 2008 to score his first goal in a 4–2 win at Lincoln City.^[6] He joined York City on a month's loan on 22 January 2009.^[7] He made his debut in a 2–1 defeat to Eastbourne Borough on 24 January

Josh Johnson

is a footballer who plays for Welsh Premier League club Rhyl. He made almost 30 appearances in the Football League for Wrexham.

Johnson's football career started off in San Juan Jabloteh in Trinidad & Tobago he played there from 2000 until July 2006. Josh started trials with Wrexham in July, making a great impression. Denis Smith was very interested in Josh even though money was a problem it did not stop him signing Johnson to the club on August 8 2006. He was released by Wrexham in May 2008 following the club's relegation to the Football Conference.^[1] Josh has represented Trinidad & Tobago at the FIFA U-20 world qualifying tournament in 2001 and the 2004 Olymplic qualifying series in Mexico.

Johnson joined Welsh Premier League club Rhyl in August 2008.

Michael Proctor

He scored the winner for Sunderland in their 2–1 win over Liverpool on 15 December 2002.^[14] One unfortunate claim to fame occurred whilst playing for Sunderland in 2003, in a 3–1 defeat to Charlton Athletic, where Proctor scored twice at the wrong end, with Stephen Wright scoring the other, also an own goal, and all three within just eight minutes. Proctor joined League Two club Wrexham on a month's loan in March 2007.^[21] This loan was extended until the end of the 2006–07 season in April.^[22] During this spell he scored two vital goals for Wrexham in their eventually successful survival bid. These were the winning goal in the 1–0 victory at local rivals Shrewsbury Town and the third goal in the Welsh club's 3–1 victory over Boston United which preserved the club's Football League status. He was released by Hartlepool in May 2007 and expressed an interest in joining Wrexham permanently.^[23]^[24] This move was confirmed in May 2007.^[25] He was transfer listed by Wrexham in May 2008 following the club's relegation to the Football Conference,^[26] despite finishing the season as the club's top scorer with 12 goals

Steve Evans

Evans began his career with as a trainee at Crewe Alexandra and West Bromwich Albion but was not offered a professional contract by either club.^[1] He joined Welsh Premier side TNS in the summer of 1999, playing in the title-winning side of 2000.^[1] He struggled to keep a first-team place in the 2001–02 season due to injury and joined Oswestry Town on loan.^[2] After six appearances for Oswestry Town, he returned to TNS and played in the title winning sides of 2005 and 2006^[3] and the 2005 Welsh Cup with victory over Carmarthen Town.^[4]

He won the Welsh Premier player of the season award for 2004–05^[1] and made nine appearances for the Welsh semi-professional side.^[5] Evans played two games against the then-European champions Liverpool in the summer of 2005; TNS lost both legs 3-0 but he and the rest of the side were praised for their performances against a side containing the likes of England midfielder Steven Gerrard with Liverpool manager saying, "TNS were well organised and they did well. We saw them on videos before the tie and we knew that they would be prepared.".^[6] Evans was inducted as a New Saints legend in May 2008.^[7]

In February 2006, Evans impressed for the Saints in an FAW Premier Cup semi-final against Wrexham, scoring an equaliser in extra-time to force the game into penalties,^[8] and joined Wrexham on a two-year deal in June 2006.^[9] He had made over 150 league and cup appearances for TNS.^[1] Wrexham manager, Denis Smith, said of him, "He can be as good as he wants to be - maybe he could even do a good job for Wales. Steve's good in the air, can pass well and reads the game. He's older and wiser and benefits from experience."^[10]

After joining the Racecourse club, he scored on his home debut against Grimsby Town in a 3–0 win.^[11] He was sent-off for two bookings against rivals, Chester City at the Deva Stadium in August 2006; Denis Smith, however, said that he had "...been outstanding for me since coming into the League. He was looking a bit 'leggy', he's finding full-time football a bit different, but he'll learn from this."^[12] In spite of that setback, Evans made a seamless transition from the largely semi-professional League of Wales to the fully professional Football League Two, making 40 league and cup appearances for Wrexham in the 2006–07 season,^[13] which was interrupted by a five-match ban during March 2007 for having been sent off three times in the season,^[14] and 32 league and cup appearances in the 2007–08 season.^[15] Following Wrexham's relegation to the Football Conference at the end of the 2007–08, he was out of contract and was considering his options.^[16] He signed a new one-year deal with Wrexham in June 2008, with an option for a further twelve months.^[17] However Evans fell out of favour during the season and was released by the club on the 2nd February 2009 Evans then rejoined his former club, The New Saints, the next day

Shaun Pejic

Shaun Melvyn Pejic (born 16 November 1982 in Hereford, England) is a professional footballer who is currently without a club after being released by Wrexham. He is eligible to play for Wales through a Welsh grandmother and is a former Welsh U-21 international.^[1]

Pejic, whose father, Mel Pejic, is a former player and current physiotherapist for Wrexham and Wales, and whose uncle, Mike Pejic, is also a former footballer, began his career as a trainee at Wrexham in 2000.^[2] He made his debut in a 1-1 draw at Port Vale in April 2001.^[3] He broke into the first team squad in February 2002, making 12 appearances for Wrexham in the remainder of the 2001–02 season.^[4] He made 32 appearances in the 2002–03 season,^[5] helping Wrexham to promotion to Division Two and to win the FAW Premier Cup.^[6] A hairline fracture of his leg ended his 2003–04 season early after he had made 23 appearances.^[7]^[8] He signed a new two-year contract in May 2004.^[9]

Pejic impressed in a 3–2 win at Notts County in September 2004, leading manager Denis Smith to say of him, "Our young central three haven't played together much, but Pejic was immense again, his defensive header in the last minute was worth a goal. He's come on again this season - that's good as we are expecting boys to do men's jobs."^[10] He made 44 appearances in the 2004–05 season,^[11] which saw Wrexham go into administration and relegated to Football League Two.^[12] Pejic missed four months of the 2005–06 season after tearing cruciate knee ligaments in August 2005^[13] but returned in January 2006, helping Wrexham to the final of the FAW Premier Cup for the second year in succession.^[14] He agreed to a 12-month extension to his contract in June 2006.^[15]

Pejic formed a good partnership at centre-back with Steve Evans in the 2006–07 season with manager Denis Smith saying after beating Scunthorpe in December 2006, "Scunthorpe have got two of the best strikers outside the Championship and my two centre-backs kept them quiet, they are starting to perform consistently as a pair, so that's good."^[16] He made 37 appearances as Wrexham avoided relegation to the Football Conference on the final day of the season^[17] and signed a new two-year contract a month later.^[18] He made 22 appearances in the 2007–08 season as Wrexham were relegated to the Football Conference.^[19]^[20] Pejic stayed at the club but rarely featured during the first half of the season and was released, along with Steve Evans on 2 February, 2009
