The time has come to see who Wrexham have got first game of the season. The fixtures for The Blue Square Premier are out 3rd July 2009, two weeks after the football league announced their fixtures for the coming season 2009/2010

The one`s I always look for and I am sure I not by myself in this are the opening game of the season, which I like to be at home, then you have got the Xmas period and then I look for the last 3-4 fixtures. It will be interesting to see if they repeat last years fiasco where the cup matches took priority over the league, sorry non league matches which happened several times last year and was shocking to say the least. Do you think that they have learnt their lesson or will carry on cancelling Saturday afternoon matches if the cup game is a replay. I hope not.

Wrexham set to snap up Cieslewicz

Wrexham are set to sign Poland youth international Adrian Cieslewicz from Manchester City.
The 18-year-old attacking midfielder has agreed a one-year deal after spending the last two-and-a-half years at Eastlands.
Cieslewicz has represented Poland at Under-19 level.
Wrexham are also in talks with last season's Blue Square Premier top scorer Andrew Mangan who is out of contract at Forest Green Rovers.
Mangan, 22, scored 26 goals in 39 games, but is understood to be talking to a number of clubs in the north west.
He is currently facing an FA charge for breaching betting rules which dates back to his days at Bury.

The FA is holding an inquiry next month into a betting scandal in which four players then at Accrington Stanley were alleged to have staked thousands of pounds on their own team to lose against Bury 14 months ago.
Mangan, who was at Bury at the time, has been charged with betting £3,500 on his own team to win, which is also against FA rules.
Meanwhile Nat Brown has had his contract terminated by mutual consent, despite having a year to go on his deal.
Brown, 28, spent most of last season on loan at Macclesfield Town.

Wrexham are close to securing the services of 2 new players ready for the coming season. One of those players happens to be polish which had to happen sooner rather than later as Wrexham is like a mini poland. I feel that a lot of supporters will not be too happy about this due to the amount of british people on the dole because the poles have got all the jobs. So as well as taking our jobs, they are now playing for our beloved Wrexham Fc which I for one am not happy about. If he happens to be the next Carlos then fair enough but if like I suspect he is just another average non League player getting paid to play football when we could have signed a british player of same ability then its wrong. There are hundreds of thousands of poles in Wrexham and it needs to be stopped, do not let any more come over, take our jobs. Definitely jobs our kids would have got and then taking houses from our kids. They act if they own Wrexham now and are some of the most ignorant people I have ever known in my life. Anyway thats my rant over for this week.

Wrexham only have the young Chris Maxwell on their books at present and even though people were raving about him at the end of last season when he played a few games and saying he is one for the future, I couldn`t disagree more. He is a decent shot stopper but when he comes for the crosses he just is not tall enough and will get beaten to 90% of all crosses he does actually come for. His kicking is somewhat dodgy and just reminds me of all our other reserve keepers who have come through the ranks with high hopes only for them to fail in the first team. We must get a new keeper, preferably two before the season because if we don`t then we will not have a chance of getting promotion. Every decent team has a decent keeper and at present we do not have one.

There are plenty of players who could be walking out for England at Wembley today if fate had been a little kinder to them.

There are plenty more who could point to an inconvenient loss of form or bad injury that cost them their shot of playing for their country.

There are more still who could single out something in their personal life that derailed their career or identify the wrong move at the wrong time as the reason they missed out.

And then there's Matt Jansen.

There's a bright, wry, intuitive man sitting at a quiet table in a pub in Alderley Edge finally admitting to himself that he's never going to get it back.

That his last desperate effort to restore his self-confidence by playing for Wrexham in the Blue Square Premier is sliding towards failure. That after nearly two years out of the game, the last few weeks at the North Wales club have done nothing to quiet his demons.

That all the years of fighting to claw his way up to where he was before his accident are about to end in defeat.

That he's never going to play for his country after all. That he's the unluckiest player never to pull on an England shirt.

So check this story out, Leighton Baines, if you're tempted to take it for granted that this match against Slovakia will be the first cap of many.

Listen to it any of you, in fact, if you do anything other than play every England game with the same joy and intensity as if it's your last. It was back in April 2002 that Jansen's England career was just beginning.

He was banging in goals for Blackburn and Sven Goran Eriksson had picked him as a striker in the starting line-up for the final friendly before the World Cup in South Korea and Japan. It would be his debut.

"I'd been told by the manager that I'd start against Paraguay at Anfield," Jansen, 31, said, "but the night before the game I came down with a stomach bug.

"I think my nephew, Eden, who was three or four, had caught it at school and passed it on to me.

"I know people say they'd give their left arm to play for England and that maybe I could have played through it but I was up all night and by the morning, I didn't have the strength to get out of bed.

They put me on a drip. That was it." The Blackburn chairman, John Williams, described the setback as a tragedy. But fortune was about to push him much closer to that.

The night before the England squad for Japan and South Korea was announced, Jansen played and scored for Blackburn at Anfield.

After the game, Eriksson told Blackburn boss Graeme Souness that Jansen would be named among the party of 23 the following day.

"By then, I'd been measured for my World Cup suit," Jansen said. "I've still got the invitation to the gala party that David Beckham threw for squad members on the eve of the departure for the Far East.

"I was driving back home from training, listening to the radio, when Eriksson started reading out the names. He kept reading and reading but he never got to me.

"I thought there must have been a mistake. My phone started ringing with people wanting to know what had happened.

"Turns out, he'd had a long conversation with Tord Grip on the way back to London from Anfield and they'd decided to go with Martin Keown instead of me. Keown didn't play a single minute in the tournament, but there you go."

That was bad. But then it got worse. Lots worse. On the opening weekend of the tournament, still gripped by disappointment, Jansen and his girlfriend Lucy, now his wife, decided to get away from it all and have a few days in Rome.

"We hired a little scooter," Jansen said. "We were driving round the cobbled streets and my girlfriend's helmet fell off. We couldn't find it so we stopped to ask some policemen if it was illegal not to wear one.

"They told us to go back to our hotel, dump the scooter and come back and search for the helmet on foot. I offered to give my helmet to my girlfriend but she insisted I wear it because I was at the front. That saved my life.

"We were 300 yards from the hotel when we got to a crossroads. There were parked cars everywhere and I was edging across it but this taxi smashed into the bike and into the side of my head.

"I was in a coma for six days. We had just been making a wish at the Trevi fountain. I wished we could stay longer in Rome. We stayed longer - it was just that I was in a hospital bed."

Lucy was badly shaken but unhurt and outwardly, at least, Jansen recovered. He astounded doctors by returning to play for Blackburn in five months.

He gave an interview then where he talked as if the sky was still the limit. "My dad has always said that I have never seen him cry," Jansen said seven years ago, "but that will all change the day I cross the white line with an England shirt on. I'm determined to make him cry." His dad never got to shed those tears. Jansen believes now he came back too early and that even if his body was healed, his mind was not. His football career since his accident has been a slow torture.

"My frustration, essentially, is knowing where I was and never being able to get back to that level," Jansen said. "I'm always striving for something that is just out of reach and the longer time goes on, the less chance I have got.

"The accident was a huge knock to my confidence. I was on anti-depressants. My memory was sporadic. Before the accident, I was high on confidence. I was ultra - confident. I desperately wanted the ball all the time.

"After the accident, I stopped believing in myself. I tried too hard. I started to worry about the small things like trapping the ball, controlling the ball. I didn't trust myself any more."

Jansen never really forced his way back into the Blackburn side. He went out on loan to Coventry. That didn't work. Eventually, in 2006, he moved on to Bolton and lasted six months. He turned his back on football for a couple of years after that. He went into property development. But it didn't satisfy his yearning. "It's not really me," he said. "Football is all I know."

So last year, he went back to Blackburn to try to get his fitness back. Then he had a trial at Huddersfield. Then he pitched up at Wrexham to help out his old mate Dean Saunders who is the manager there. It's the last stop. Jansen injured his knee in a defeat to Crawley Town last Saturday. It will probably keep him out for a couple of weeks.

Wrexham may be out of the play-off picture by the time he comes back. "I just wanted to have one last go to see if I could recapture my love for the game but the same old frustrations are still there," Jansen said. "I want to go from zero to hero in a few months. I'm impatient. I get frustrated when I make basic errors. I do great things but I do bad things, too. It's hit and miss.

"In your confident moments, you think 'I can give it another crack'. But I have stopped believing in myself."

When the season ends, Jansen wants to start taking his coaching badges and work towards becoming a manager.

The recent publicity about Brian Clough has made him aware that Clough's playing career was cut short, too. It's something to aim for.

It's not that he needs the money. He's made plenty from the game and his dabbling in property. He lives in a big house. Cristiano Ronaldo and Rio Ferdinand live just up the hill.

But they have something he doesn't. They have their confidence. The kind of unshakeable confidence he once had.

"Who knows what the future holds?" Jansen said. "Hopefully, I can get the belief back in some other way."

SUBJECT to a medical, Dean Saunders has reached agreement with former Wales striker Gareth Taylor over a one-year contract.

Having left Doncaster Rovers when his contract finished this summer, the 36-year-old has been having talks with Dean for a few weeks and agreement was finally reached today.

"I'm delighted that we have been able to get Gareth," said the Wrexham boss, who played alongside the forward at Sheffield United.

"He's just the type of experienced player I have been looking for, to play next to the likes of Marc Williams and Obi Anoruo.

"I think it's vital for our younger strikers to have someone like Gareth on the field with them, as he will only help make them better players.

"He is player I have known as a team mate at Sheffield United, so I know his strengths and he's still fit as a fiddle.

"At 6'2" his height makes him a good target man and he thinks about what he's doing.

"At the moment he's away on holiday, but once he returns he'll have a medical and then we'll get the paperwork all signed off."

The boss is still looking to strengthen his forward line over the coming weeks as he prepares the squad to return to training on 1 July.

"I have my eye on several strikers who I could bring in, as I want them to compete with Marc and Gareth for a starting place next season," said Dean.

"Talks are on going, but I won't be rushed, it has to be right for me and the club."

Gareth Taylor started his career with Southampton, but failed to make any first team appearances and was released. Bristol Rovers then signed him and he made his league debut as a centre-back in a 6-1 defeat at Cambridge United in February 1992.

He did not play again until the first match of the 1994-95 campaign, by which time manager John Ward had converted him into a striker. His height meant he was a good target man and was exceptional in the air, scoring 12 goals (most of them headers) in his first full season alongside Marcus Stewart and Paul Miller in attack.

Gareth's brace against Brentford on the final day ensured a Division 2 play-off spot and after a tense away goals victory over Crewe Alexandra in the semi-final, Bristol Rovers made it to Wembley, though they lost 2-1 to Huddersfield Town.

After four goals in seven games at the start of the following season, he was transferred to Crystal Palace for an initial £750,000 rising to an eventual £1.25 million.

After failing to make an impact at the London outfit, two goals in 20 appearances, he was soon made available and signed by Sheffield United, where he made 50+ appearances and scored 24 goals.

This brought Gareth to the attention of Manchester City, who bought him for £400,000 and he made around 40 appearances, scoring9 goals. This led to him being loaned out to various clubs, including Port Vale, Queens Park Rangers and Burnley (who eventually signed him on a free transfer).

His time at Burnley was arguably the best time in his football career, as he played 105 games altogether (scoring 37 goals) making him a favourite with the fans.

This record persuaded Paul Hart to buy him for Nottingham Forest for £500,000. At the beginning of the 2003-04 season, following his recovery from a serious eye injury sustained while still at Burnley, he became a regular in the side when David Johnson broke his leg.

Forest's fortunes took a downturn largely caused by a mass exodus of players during the previous summer. Taylor played a big part in the recovery with some very important goals.

In the unfortunate 2004-05 season, which resulted in relegation, he was made captain by Gary Megson and was top scorer with 11 goals.

With striker Grant Holt being signed to replace him, Taylor suddenly fell out of favour and was allowed to go on loan to Crewe Alexandra, where he enjoyed some success but was unable to prevent them getting relegated.

Gareth's contract at Nottingham Forest expired in the summer of 2006, with the club deciding against renewing it and he was released. At the end of June 2006, he joined Tranmere Rovers on a two-year contract, scoring 9 goals in all competitions in his debut season.

Taylor initially signed for Doncaster Rovers on loan in January 2008 and the deal was made permanent a few weeks later. He scored his first goal in a 2-2 draw against Huddersfield at the Galpharm Stadium and helped them to play-off success that summer.

Gareth joined Carlisle United on a month-long loan deal in March 2009 and scored on his debut, in a 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra. He returned to Doncaster at the end of the season, but was told it would not be renewed, despite having played in 17 championship games last season.

He is a former Wales international, who gained 12 caps, qualifying for the national side through his father, and scored his only goal in a 4-0 friendly victory over Scotland at the Millennium Stadium in 2004.

Wrexham will face a Wolverhampton Wanderers XI during pre-season at The Racecourse

Wrexham will face a Wolverhampton Wanderers XI during pre-season at The Racecourse, writes Richard Williams.
The Reds will entertain Wolves, newly promoted back to the Premiership, on Wednesday, August 5 (7.30pm).

As the Molineux outfit are also in action the previous evening against Scunthorpe, the Wolves XI could be a mixture of first-teamers – there are already more than 25 professionals on their books for next season – and development players based on availability.

This will be Wrexham's last pre-season game before the season kicks-off the following Saturday, and Wolves have agreed to donate their match fee to the Reds' Centre of Excellence.

Do not expect to see any first teamers as they are on the other side of the world playing friendlies over there.

Meanwhile a Wolves XI - which could be a mixture of first teamers and Development players depending on availability - has been booked in for a further four fixtures.

All are away from home and all to be played at the respective opponent's first team grounds.

The first game is at Kidderminster on July 18 (kick off 3pm), followed by Hereford on July 25 (3pm).

Next up is Crewe on July 29 (7.30pm) and then Wrexham on August 5 (7.30pm).

"We are pleased with the selection of games which will provide us with some good opposition," said Development coach Steve Weaver.

"The schedule has been designed to ensure all our professional players get the relevant time needed on the pitch to ensure they are fully prepared for the new season."

The first team's away fixtures kick off with Perth Glory (July 10) and North Queensland Fury (July 15) on the pre-season tour of Australia.

Back in England trips are scheduled to Walsall (July 21), Bristol City (July 25), MK Dons (July 28), Doncaster (August 1) and Scunthorpe (August 4).

Former Wrexham goalkeeper reject Anthony Williams has signed for Welsh Premier League side Neath.

Released by Wrexham boss Dean Saunders at the end of last season, former Wales under 21 international Williams has joined up with former Reds' team-mate Chris Llewellyn who has arrived from League Two outfit Grimsby Town.

The Maesteg-born 31-year-old has made more than 250 Football League appearances since starting his career as a trainee at Blackburn Rovers in 1997, playing for Hartlepool United, Grimsby Town, Carlisle United and Wrexham as well as spending time on loan at Queens Park Rangers, Macclesfield Town, Huddersfield Town, Bristol Rovers, Gillingham, Swansea City, Stockport County and Bury

Wrexham reveals nearly £1m losses

Wrexham FC has announced losses of £940,482 for the year ending June 2008.
The north Wales club was relegated from the Football League at the end of that season to the Blue Square Premier.
Wrexham says it also expects similar losses for the next financial year, but these will be funded by chairman Geoff Moss via an interest free loan.
"Relegation meant a reduction in income and our failure to be promoted straight back has resulted in a further loss of income," read a Wrexham club statement.
"The continued funding of new management, new players and loan players during the 2008-09 season will mean that we will have similar results for the year ending 30 June 2009.
"Whilst we managed to recover from a disappointing opening two months of the [2008/9] season, our attempts to gain a big pay day via promotion; a play-off final; or an FA Trophy final did not materialise."
Wrexham's statement also stressed that loan interest charged during the year: "...relates to interest paid on loans from third parties, made to the club via Mr Moss and Mr Dickens [former owner Neville Dickens] - neither has received any benefit from interest on any loan."

The - as yet unaudited - accounts also show that on 6 October 2008 the club managed to repay £300,000 of a £500,000 loan provided by former Wrexham AM Dr John Marek.
The club says it is confident that better times are ahead thanks to redevelopment plans for its Racecourse Ground home, which will "clear the debts" of Wrexham FC.
In April, Wrexham councillors approved the planning application for a project to build 800 student flats on the site.
As part of that process, it has been announced that Moss will sell his 100% shareholding in Wrexham FC to Wrexham Village Ltd - the development company created to handle the project.
"This company will buy the development land from the club and in return clear the debts of the club and also invest desperately needed working capital into the club," the statement continued.
Wrexham Supporters' Trust had previously said it was concerned over the "element of risk" in the scheme if the club's assets were used as security against the redevelopment.
Wrexham FC went into administration in 2004 with debts of around £4m, before being bought out by a consortium led by local businessman Dickens.
Dickens' 50% shareholding was bought in 2008 by Moss, who then had a controlling interest in the club.

WREXHAM yesterday confirmed that midfield players Levi Mackin and Shaun Whalley, who both spent much of last season out on loan, have been released.
The announcement coincided with the news that former Racecourse favourite Mark Jones – a free agent after being released by League Two outfit Rochdale – has spoken with Dragons boss Dean Saunders.
The 24-year old – who won two Wales caps at Wrexham under former boss Denis Smith – said his meeting with Saunders had been informal and open-ended.
“He invited me in for a chat, but that is as far as it has gone,” said Jones yesterday. “Wrexham is my hometown club and I enjoyed my time there, so I would definitely consider a return if it was offered.
“But that has not happened and it’s very early days because the season has just finished. My agent is speaking to a number of clubs and we’ll have to see what comes up.
“From my time training with the Wales squad in the past I know Dean Saunders is a very good coach and I enjoyed working with him as part of the national set-up. Nothing is on the table as far as Wrexham is concerned at the moment, although I would not rule anything in or out in the future.”
Mackin, who like Jones came through the Racecourse youth development programme, started last season as a regular under former boss Brian Little but found his first-team opportunities restricted following the appointment of Saunders in October.
The 23-year-old accepted a loan move to York City, helping the Minstermen to avoid relegation from the Blue Square Premier and playing in last Saturday’s FA Trophy final at Wembley where Stevenage Borough emerged 2-0 winners.
Racecourse assistant manager Terry Darracott said: “Levi’s a great lad and we wish him the best of luck in the future. His season finished on a little bit of a high with his Wembley appearance and he deserved that.”
Whalley’s Racecourse stay proved much shorter than Mackin’s, the former Accrington Stanley player arriving last July. He made a total of 19 first-team appearances, scoring five goals, but he too was quickly declared surplus to requirements by Saunders and joined Southport on loan.
In further additions to Wrexham’s pre-season programme of friendly matches, provisional dates have been agreed with Manchester City (July 25) and Premier League newcomers Wolverhampton Wanderers (August 5)
