NON LEAGUE Barrow 1-1 Wrexham
Barrow 1-1 Wrexham
|
Jefferson Louis earned Wrexham a share of the spoils with the last kick of the match at Barrow.
But Wrexham manager Dean Saunders would have been left frustrated after his players had the best of the clash.
Despite dominating the first-half, during which they missed three clear-cut chances, Wrexham went behind to a Jason Walker goal on 30 minutes.
And just as the Welsh side looked certain to lose Louis grabbed a point with a late, curling shot.
Wrexham manager Dean Saunders:
"I thought we missed some chances at Kidderminster when we won 2-0, but that takes the biscuit.
"I'm not exaggerating when I say we missed 15 chances today.
"I feel it's two points we have dropped - we absolutely battered them.
"Chances went begging and we weren't ruthless enough. It's a great strike by Jefferson (Louis) but it's two points dropped."

preview of how the new Wrexham Village project could well look
A preview of how the new Wrexham Village project could well look, if planning permission is granted and work gets underway in the near future...
WREXHAM Football Club was delighted to announce this week that planning permission has been put forward to Wrexham Maelor Borough Council for a major new Student Village development adjacent to the Racecourse Ground - with all profits from it going straight into the Club.
The development company created to handle the project, Wrexham Village Ltd, has announced the £40 million investment for the local community - securing in excess of 100 jobs locally, plus additional full time staffing once the project is completed. This will not only result in benefiting the local community but also mean a more secure future for the club.
The development known as Wrexham Village and will take place in two phases, the first creating in excess of 520 student bedrooms, with phase two creating an additional 320 units.
Director Paul Retout, commented:"This is a really positive step for the Club and the community at large, as we are adding investment into Wrexham as a whole and pushing the Club in the right direction.
"We are working closely with Glyndwr University to create the best possible Student accommodation in North Wales and further afield."
Phase 1 is due for completion in September 2011, and Phase 2 the following year.
Paul added: "Wrexham Village will help finance Wrexham Football Club as all profits from the project is going back into the Club - securing the future, with the aim of paying off all current debts and putting working capital into the Club.
"This continued investment will help to meet the long term aspirations of the board and Club."
Geoff Moss, chairman of Wrexham FC added: "This is a fantastic step forward for the club and we are delighted to be taking larger steps towards the long term security of the club."

The Stags, under the temporary charge of senior players Mark Stallard and Adie Moses following Billy McEwan's departre, looked dead and buried when they were 2-0 after just 11 minutes..
But they rode their luck in the rest of the first half and then looked much more of a threat after the restart.
Aaron O'Connor pulled one goal back midway through the half but there was no equaliser as the hosts, so dominant early on, held firm.
The opener came inside three minutes in what was the first serious attack of the game by either side.
Marc Williams broke free on the left byline and pulled the ball back for Jon Brown, who had the simplest of tap-ins from close range.
In the 11th minute, a superb stop from Jamie Annerson saw him claw away a Marc Williams header that was heading for the left-hand corner
But it was 2-0 from the resulting flag kick as Nathan Woolfe's near post kick was headed goalwards by Ashley Westwood and seemed to go in off a Mansfield body on the line.
With Wrexham rampant, Woolfe's cross was only inches too far for two Red Dragons making late runs into the box.
Midway through the half, James Kay's excellent cross was missed by the head Aaron O'Connor at close quarters, but the striker was flagged offside anyway.
The hosts went close to 3-0 when the lively Marc Williams escaped down the right and crossed for Andy Fleming whose low finish was crucially blocked by Silk.
Mansfield had two good situations within the space of 30 seconds as first Nathan Arnold lost control of the ball when he could have gone clear before Jonathan D'Laryea's through ball was just inches too far for Sinclair.
But Wrexham were always dangerous and Brown thundered just centimetres wide of the right-hand post from the edge of the box.
Just before the break, Brown find space on the left and crossed low for Patrick Suffo whose attempted finish was well blocked by Alan O'Hare.
In the final minute, Silk found space to cross for D'Laryea who headed straight at Ward before O'Connor curled well off target.
At the start of the second period, Marc Williams caught a sight of goal but spooned his effort well wide.
The Stags won a free-kick that was cleared only as far as O'Connor, whose volley sped past the left-hand post.
Kay then thumped well wide from distance before Neil Taylor got in an important header to deny Alex Jeannin from Arnold's centre.
Wrexham's response saw Mike Williams bring a smart save out of Annerson from Brown's left-wing free-kick.
Just before the hour, Adnan Ahmed came on to replace Matt Somner in midfield.
Jeannin had acres of space to run into as Wrexham were caught on the break, only to fire high over the top from 25 yards.
In the 67th minute, Marc Williams' tenacity allowed him to tee up substitute Sam Aiston, whose drive was high and wide.
Mansfield gave themselves hope soon after when they pulled a goal back. Kay's deep cross was pulled back by Sinclair allowing O'Connor to side-foot home a simple finish from eight yards.
That seemed to inject some confidence into the Stags and only a last-ditch tackle from Westwood prevented substitute Michael Blackwood – on for Jeannin – for having a glorious chance to level.
Ward then made a fine diving stop to deny O'Connor after Hurren's accurate through pass had set him up..
But Wrexham almost wrapped the game up in their next foray forward as Marc Williams struck the right-hand post trying to bend the ball into the corner from the edge of the box.
Sinclair was left holding his head in his hands when he overran the ball after being sent clear by a slide-rule pass from Ahmed.
With the game now spread, the opportunities were coming thick and fast at both ends and Aiston's centre only just cleared a Wrexham head when a touch would almost certainly brought a goal.
A sharp turn by Sinclair saw him get away down the right but O'Connor could only turn his hard and low cross over the bar.
With time running out, Kay won the ball in an advanced position but dragged his 20-yard drive well wide.
At the other end, Brown struck the outside of the right-hand post from a tight angle after winning a foot race with Kay.
The referee added four minutes of stoppage time but Mansfield were unable to fashion a clear opening.
Mansfield: Annerson, Silk, O'Hare, Hurren, Kay, Arnold, D'Laryea, Somner, Jeannin, Sinclair, O'Connor. Subs: Gamble, Blackwood, Ahmed, Trimmer, Kitchen.
Wrexham: Ward, Taylor, Mike Williams, Westwood, Williamson, J. Brown, Fleming, Fairhurst, Woolfe, Marc Williams, Suffo. Subs: Kearney, Aiston, Smith, Tsiaklis, Abbott.

Wrexham manager Dean Saunders said:
"It was our game to lose in the end.
"They weren't peppering our goal but if the ball bounced their way, they might have equalised.
"I lost count of how many goals we could have scored. We were in situation where the ball has got to go in.
"And they seemed to gain confidence from our misses, they showed a bit of fight and scored a good goal.
"I wasn't happy with the second half and I'd like to teach them about how to win a football match."
Mansfield joint caretaker-manager Mark Stallard:
"I was pleased of the response to the lads because in the first 15 minutes we gave away two sloppy goals and didn't look at it.
"We dug deep, fought and played with a bit of freedom as we took the shackles off and expressed ourselves, especially in the second-half.
"We looked dangerous and with a bit more confidence and getting our injured players, there's a bit of brightness on the horizon."

Wrexham v Southport Highlights
In a much changed team from our last leaguematch Dean Saunders decides to give some of the reserve players a chance to impress but unfortunately this was not the case.
Wrexham dominated the opening 45 minutes and Marc Williams scored around 8 minutes before half time with a well taken goal, which he took round the keeper and slotted home but we should have been 3-4 goals to the good with the amount of possession we had. Steve Evans getting a rare run out as was Anthony Williams in goal but don`t bank on seeing these two again in a Wrexham shirt this season after a disastrous 2nd half and extra time performance.
Brown up front for us was a class apart from everyone else and he eased past players as if they weren`t there as I thought his performance was outstanding and he is in my opinion destined for a good future in the game.
The 2nd half kicks off and on the hour mark Steve Evans brought their lad down in the box and was shown a straight red and they equalised from the penalty. From this moment onwards Southport tore us apart and at times we couldn`t get anywhere near the ball and it was embarrasing to watch. It was like Brian Little was back in charge, then I realised that most of the players on show tonight were regulars under Little and it brought back bad memories as we were awful.Ten minutes before the end of 90 minutes a red card was shown to Williamson for a challenge which was not worthy of even a yellow card, never mind a red and the referee knew he had made a mistake when a few minutes later he sent off a Southport player for challenging for a ball and he obviously did this to amend for his red card a few minutes earlier as the both of them were never red cards in a million years. It was now 9 against 10 players and off into extra time we go on a freezing night at The Racecourse. A howler from Anthony Williams from a cross gifted Sotuhport their 2nd goal and didn`t the fans let him know. They were shouting for Gavin Ward and singing that Williams will never play for Wrexham again and he was very shaky after this and every backpass it was 50/50 whether he would make a mess of it. At one stage he gave an evil stare to sections of the crowd who were slagging him off and this did him no favours at all. Wrexham hit the bar in the 2nd half of injury time but they deserved exactly what they got and that was nothing.
Come back for highlights of the goals and the red cards.

Nat Stays On With Silkmen
The tall centre half has played in seven games during his first four weeks at Moss Rose and weighed in with three goals in three games to help the Macc lads to a draw and two wins.
He has also played in two FA Cup victories away to Harlow and Port Vales, with them now facing Everton in the third round.
The ex-Lincoln City defender still lives in Sheffield and the daily commute to Macclesfield is only about half that of travelling to North Wales.
This comes only a few days after Darran Kempson agreed to a second month with Forest Green Rovers, while Simon Brown is just settling into his stay with Rushden & Diamonds.

Wrexham Match Off - Frozen Pitch
A pitch inspection will be carried out at 1pm.
Find out if the game is on here this afternoon.
Wrexham`s game at Northwich Victoria tonight has been called off after a 1pm pitch inspection due to a frozen pitch. This is now another match that we will need to try and fit in to a schedule that`s going to hamper our promotion bid as it is now highly likely we will be playing 2-3 games some weeks before the end of the season.
A date has not yet been decided for the rearranged fixture.

Wrexham have signed Cardiff striker Jonathan Brown on loan until January. The 18-year-old is a Wales Under-21 international and made his senior Cardiff debut last season, with two substitute appearances in the league. Meanwhile, midfielder Simon Brown has left Wrexham to join Rushden and Diamonds on loan, also until January. "The chance for Simon to get a few games will help us all," Wrexham manager Dean Saunders told the official Wrexham website. |

Kidderminster 1-0 Wrexham
Wrexham boss Dean Saunders' honeymoon period ended at Kidderminster Harriers with a 1-0 defeat at Aggborough.
Saunders suffered his first managerial loss thanks to Brian Smikle's first-half winner, cracking in Barnes-Homer's cross from the edge of the area.
Wrexham hit the Harriers post three times in the first-half by Wes Baynes, Nathan Woolfe and Jefferson Louis.
Wrexham's Patrick Suffo was denied a debut goal by an Adam Bartlett save before the keeper saved a Baynes shot.
Wrexham manager Dean Saunders:
"I'm flabbergasted how we've lost that game but their goalie has made five or six fantastic saves and we've hit the post three times.
"We could have scored ten today, I can't believe we haven't scored. But I suppose you can't win every game - and the ball didn't break for us today but that's football."
How the hell we lost that match I just don`t know. Apart from the goal which should have been cleared but De laet slipped they were never in the game. We absolutely thrashed them and on another day we could very easily have had six or seven. We hit the woodwork three times and Suffo came on as sub in the 2nd half and with his very first touch as a Wrexham player he saw his shot brilliantly saved by the kidderminster keeper. It was everything bar the kitchen sink we threw at them second half and we just had no luck whatsoever.
There were shouts from the Wrexham players for a penalty in the last ten minutes who claimed one of the Kidderminster players handled the ball but the ref was not interested.
In another chance for Wrexham the keeper saved a shot with his legs and it rebounded straight to Williams who just couldn`t react in time and it bounced off Williams for a goal kick.
If we played this match again we would win very easily for sure but today the luck just wasn`t there but a great effort and the lads never gave up. For sure I can see us getting promoted this year. Yes I know there is a long way to go but remember when Saunders took over we didn`t look like scoring, we couldn`t even pass the bloody ball straight and it was like watching Wimbledon in the old days. Dreadful football by a dreadful manager in Brian Little but in Dean Saunders we are playing decent football on the floor, look like scoring every game, have got a very young squad and it is exciting to go and watch Wrexham once again. He has started to get rid of Little`s useless players which I told the whole world 12 months ago that Little was useless and was buying crap, but everyone kept saying give him a chance, but why everyone who knows anything about football could see the players he brought in were worst than the players he was getting rid of. Who the hell would of signed Mansfield`s two strikers , the team that got relegated with us. They didn`t do the job for Mansfield as they got relegated so why the hell Little thought they would be any good for us was shocking.
One last thing is why the hell are we not on Setanta as we are the biggest club the Blue Square Premier has ever seen so why have we only been on twice, it`s like not putting Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd on Sky. You just wouldn`t watch Sky but Setant haven`t got a bloody clue. Well done Setanta. Absolutely useless coverage and that bloody reporter who does interviews while the game is still being played. Tell her we want to watch the match not her, well not unless she gets her tits out then I may think about it but otherwise stick with the bloody match you muppets at Setanta.
That`s enough of my rant for this week.
Wrexham are goig up for sure this season. Dean Saunders has started the miracle by getting rid of some of Little`s signings and getting some good young lads who can play football.

The Reds, who also included Nathan Fairhurst in their starting XI, took the lead after just 13 minutes when Woolfe fired home a free kick after Kevin Sandwith had fouled Wes Baynes.
Marc Williams and Baynes both went close to extending the lead but Wrexham had to be content with the single goal at half time.
The second half saw Weymouth's Chris McPhee go close with a header, and Reds' keeper Gavin Ward also saved another McPhee effort as the home side went in search of the equaliser.
But top scorer Jefferson Louis struck on 83 minutes with a low shot from 18 yards, before Marc Williams continued his rich vein of form, firing home two minutes later.
There was still time for Stuart Beavon to grab a goal for Weymouth, but victory for Wrexham means their winning streak has now extended to five games and leaves them just outside the play-off places with 30 points and a game in hand over most of their rivals.

Duo Cleared To Play
Duo Cleared To Play
ANOTHER day spent staring at a fax machine finally produced a result for both Nathan Woolfe and Nathan Fairhurst, as the BSP registrations and international clearances for the pair finally arrived in time for them to be included in the squad to face Weymouth.
Nathan Fairhurst
Nathan Woolfe
It was a fairly close run thing, as Nathan Fairhurst came through first at 3.30pm but Nathan Woolfe was nearly 5 o'clock before the fax machine confirmed his international clearance from England.
Unfortunately the same can't be said for Patrick Suffo, who travelled anyway with the squad for their overnight trip to the south coast.
His registration appears to be in Israel and was not helped by the fact that the Jewish working week lasts from Sunday to Thursday!
At present, requests from the FAW to their counterparts in the middle east have not revealed anything yet. Although the player says he had the same problem when he went on loan to a Spanish club last season and it was a protracted exercise before clearance was eventually forthcoming.
New England 'C' cap Carl Tremarco has returned safely from international duty in Italy and goes back into the squad after missing the last two weeks.
Wrexham: Gavin Ward, Anthony Williams, Carl Tremarco, Ritchie De Laet, Ashley Westwood, Steve Evans, Wes Baynes, Nathan Woolfe, Nathan Fairhurst, Angelos Tsiaklis, Levi Mackin, Neil Taylor, Mike Williams, Silvio Spann, Christian Smith, Shaun Whalley, Michael Proctor, Marc Williams, Jefferson Louis (19).

Patrick Suffo agrees Wrexham deal
Patrick Suffo agrees Wrexham deal
PATRICK SUFFO has agreed to join Wrexham on a pay-as-you-play deal.
The Evening Leader reports that the former Coventry City striker has put pen to paper this week after training with Dean Saunders' team this month.
He said: ""I've really enjoyed training at Wrexham.
"I have spoken to with the manager and I'm very happy to sign on in the short term, then see how things develop.
"There are times when it's more than just money and I hope I can establish myself with Wrexham.
"I feel this is a club which should be playing at a higher level and it would be tremendous to be a part of a team that could lift back up the divisions."
Wrexham eye loan deal for Nathaniel
Stoke youngster could be set for non-league switch
YOUTH-team ace Nathaniel Wedderburn could be about to join non-League Wrexham on loan after recently training with the Welshmen.
Stoke have already sent young Belgian defender Richie de Laet to the Racecourse Ground for an initial month on loan.
And now Wedderburn, a powerfully-built midfielder currently in his second and final year as a youth-teamer, could be making the short trip over the Anglo-Welsh border himself.
“He’s already trained with them because they wanted to get him involved and take a look at him,” said youth coach Adrian Pennock.
“We’d like to get him out on loan if we can because he’s now at that stage where he needs to be pushed to gain the right experience.
“I’m more than confident he will hold his own at that level – in fact I feel sure he could pull his weight at a higher level.
“We saw Ryan Shotton go out on loan to the same division with Altrincham and do well last season. And now he’s doing well two divisions higher with Tranmere.
“So the challenge is there for Nathaniel. He’s very much a boy in a man’s body in terms of his experience and his physical stature. But he’s learning all the time and will benefit from the experience of competitive football.”
Meanwhile, Pennock’s under-18s return to competitive action after a fortnight’s break with this Saturday’s visit of Crewe to the Michelin (11am).
But they will be without talented youngster Yusuf Yilmaz after he underwent surgery on a long-running ankle problem this week.
“He’s had problems striking a ball properly for a while now,” said Pennock, “but because he’s so honest he’s kept training and playing, which hasn’t done him any favours.
“He’s seen a specialist and then the physios decided the time had come for a minor op to clean out a bit of bone in the ankle.
“We are now hoping he will be out for eight weeks maximum.”
At least the talented teenager was able to parade his skills on national television before being sidelined with the surgery.
A fortnight ago Stoke were featured on a popular youth-team skills spot on Sky’s Soccer AM show on a Saturday mornning.
Yilmaz took on colleague Adam Vickers and, thanks to a routine that included removing a boot during some ball juggling, he was voted the winner by their team-mates.
Wrexham v Weymouth
Wes Baynes flexible for Wrexham FC
Nov 11 2008 by Mark Currie, Daily Post
WES BAYNES is hoping for an instant recall to Wrexham’s ranks for the weekend trip to Weymouth after missing last week’s Setanta Shield clash with Altrincham due to a one-match suspension.
The 20-year-old was banned because he collected a fifth caution of the season in the 2-1 win at Mansfield Town just before what he claimed was his best performance of the campaign to date against Lewes 10 days ago.
And Baynes, who was pushed into midfield for the Dragons’ fourth straight Blue Square Premier league victory following the recruitment on loan of Stoke City full-back Ritchie De Laet, reckons he is more suited to a forward role.
“Hopefully I’ll play at Weymouth because I want to carry on where I left off against Lewes,” he said yesterday.
“I felt it was my best game of the season because I was not restricted from pushing on as much as if I had been playing right back.
“There’s a lot more freedom in midfield and there’s the chance to see more of the ball.
“And with Ritchie doing so well behind me I didn’t have to worry too much about the defensive side of my duties.”
Baynes admitted he was hoping De Laet, who picked up a groin strain against Altrincham at Moss Lane last Tuesday evening in the Setanta Shield, would recover in time for the weekend, but added: “If the gaffer wants me to fill in at right back again, that’s not a problem.
“I’m happy to play in any position just as long as it means I get a game.”
The Altrincham game apart, Baynes has been an ever-present under Saunders, who took over from Brian Little, and the youngster is determined to establish himself as a first team regular.
“No-one was more disappointed than me when we were knocked out of the FA Cup,” he added.
“But we’ve had a great little run in the league since the gaffer took over.
“And the bottom line is that everyone here wants to win promotion back to the Football League this season, so these games are the priority.
“As a team we have played some good stuff at times and we know we have to maintain the same standard week in and week out.”
Saunders, who brought his players in for training on Saturday to compensate for the blank date, has organised a friendly with an Everton XI today as part of his build-up to the weekend.
“We have had three really good days of training and we are beginning to focus on the task in hand at Weymouth,” he said.
“I watched them at Rushden & Diamonds on Saturday and they look to be a decent team. But it’s all about what we do and as long as we don’t take our foot off the pedal I’ll be reasonably confident.”
The Racecourse boss, who will have newly-signed striker Patrick Suffo available for the weekend, is hoping to bring in yet more new faces before then, but is still waiting for contacts to come back to him.
In the Colliers Park treatment room, summer signing Kyle Critchell is at least a month away from a return to training following ankle surgery and fellow long-term casualties Andy Fleming (ankle) and Simon Spender (dislocated elbow) are looking at a further six weeks of rehabilitation.

'Standards will not slip' says Wrexham FC boss
DEAN SAUNDERS insists he will not let standards slip following Wrexham's excellent turnaround in fortunes in the Blue Square Premier since he took over as manager.
Wrexham have won all four league matches under Saunders and are now eighth in the table, just five points off leaders Kettering with a game in hand.Without a game this weekend because of their early exit in the FA Cup, the Reds players will continue preparing for next Saturday's trip to Weymouth with a series of gruelling work-outs on the Colliers Park training ground. And there will be no let-up at Wrexham said Saunders today: "It will be good week or so of intensive training now. I will get the players even more focussed. We have sent a message out to the league that we are coming like a steam train."The pressure is on and there is no slacking. The bar at this club has been too low – but I have set it really high."That is the only place I know where the bar is. That is the way I have lived my career and I will not lower it. The bar is high and they have to get up to it."Wrexham go into their break on the back of an extra-time win at Altrincham in the third round of the Setanta Shield on Tuesday. The reward for that 2-1 victory is a home tie against Conference North highfliers Southport in the last 16, with the tie likely to be played the first midweek in December. And Saunders was pleased Wrexham overcome Altrincham when they were below their best to seal a fourth round berth: "It is a home draw which is good,"he said. "But it is further in my mind because we have got a lot of other games before then."I was disappointed Tuesday but 99.9 per cent of them were having a go. They were trying to win the game, and I want to see us win when we are not playing well."Saunders, who announced his intention to trim the Reds' squad earlier in the week, has allowed two players to go out on loan. Not short of options in the centre-back department, Saunders has let Darran Kempson join Forest Green Rovers and Nat Brown go to Macclesfield. Both have joined on one-month loan deals and are eligible for their clubs' FA Cup games this weekend.Macc boss Keith Alexander was delighted to capture Brown after the pair worked together at Lincoln.Brown goes straight into the squad for The Silkmen's trip to Harlow Town with Alexander saying: "Nat's a confident lad with a lot of ability and presence. He's also versatile and can play in the centre of midfield as well, so he will certainly give us extra options."And the fact he knows some of the lads in the squad already is a big help and I know he'll fit in well at the Moss Rose."Neither Kempson or Brown have featured in recent weeks and Saunders has urged other players currently out of the reckoning to keep fighting for a place in the team."At the moment the reaction from all the players not playing has been top class," said Saunders. "They are all striving to get in the team and that's what I want. "I want them to get up to the bar and compete for their place."Saunders is eager to free up places in the squad so he can bring in more new fresh faces. But a number of players who have been on trial at Wrexham will not be coming in on-loan.Saunders has informed Senegalese striker Daniel Bocande – a free agent – and Manchester City full-back Sam Williamson that they will not be offered deals; while frontman Chad Bond has already returned to Swansea City after training with the Reds."There are only so many players I can bring in so I have to make sure they are the right ones," said Saunders who has not ruled out trying to bring in midfielder Joe Allen for another loan spell. The Welsh under 21 international's first loan stint from Swansea City was cut short after just two games when he picked up an ankle ligament injury in training."I would be interested but Joe is still injured and he might be out for a couple of weeks," added Saunders. "It was bad luck because Joe played very well in those two games, and we won them both. It was more disappointing because Andy Fleming got injured at the same time."

FORMER Cameroon ace Patrick Suffo is set to be offered a short-term contract at Wrexham.
The 30-year old ex-Coventry City striker has been training with the Dragons for the past couple of weeks and manager Dean Saunders has opened talks with the player, who was a member of his country’s successful team at the 2000 Olympics and also played in the 2002 World Cup finals.
“I’m considering offering Patrick a short-term deal,” Saunders said yesterday. “I’ll be talking to him to see if we can come to an agreement.”
The Racecourse boss also revealed that he hopes to sign another new striker before the club’s next Blue Square Premier match at Weymouth next Saturday.
“The player I’m interested in is a different type of player to those we already have,” he added.

Brown Set For Macclesfield Debut Sporting Life - League Two 15:01
LEAGUE TWO NEWS |
BROWN SET FOR MACCLESFIELD DEBUT E-mail Article Print-Friendly Subscribe to RSS Feed Click here for head-to-head stats Macclesfield manager Keith Alexander could hand a debut to on-loan Wrexham defender Nat Brown in the FA Cup first-round tie at Harlow Town. The 27-year-old joined the Robins in the summer but his appearances for the Welshmen have been limited due to injury. Alexander looks set to make changes in attack with the struggling Silkmen having scored just 15 goals in 14 League Two outings this season. They have lost their last three league outings to lie 20th in the table and striker Simon Yeo could earn a recall after a bout of flu at the expense of Martin Gritton or Francis Green. Defender Paul Morgan is still suffering from the concussion he received against Rotherham and is unlikely to feature while striker Gareth Evans completes a four-match ban, but James Jennings is back from his one-match suspension. |
Wrexham FC's Nat Brown keen to impress on loan
Nov 7 2008 by Rob Griffiths, Daily Post
NAT BROWN is hoping to use this coming month’s loan spell at Macclesfield Town to either boost his chances of first-team football at Wrexham or put himself in the shop window for a permanent move away.
Brown yesterday went out on loan to League Two outfit Macclesfield Town, where he will be reunited with former Lincoln City boss Keith Alexander, and will hope to make his first appearance in tomorrow’s FA Cup first-round tie at Harlow.
But Brown, who was brought to the Racecourse by ex-boss Brian Little in the summer, wants to prove to present manager Dean Saunders he is worthy of a place in the Dragons side when he returns.
“I’m very happy to be going out on loan to Macclesfield,” said Brown. “I just want to get back playing.
“This will give me the chance to show I am worth a place in the side, but also it is at a team in a higher league and it will put me in the shop window. As a footballer you have to keep your options open.
“There’s a lot of centre-backs at Wrexham at the moment, and the gaffer has just said to everyone that they have to work hard and try to get into the side.
“But at my age I need to be playing first-team football and going to Macclesfield for a month will give me that opportunity.”
Brown, 27, is the second Dragons’ defender to go out on loan this week with Darran Kempson joining Blue Square Premier rivals Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday.
The pair have dropped down the pecking order under the new Saunders regime, with Ashley Westwood, who was the manager’s first signing, being paired with youngster Mike Williams.
Brown added: “To be fair I don’t know why I’m not playing, but the manager has his own ideas and you have to accept them.
“I’m looking forward to working with Keith (Alexander) again. I’ve known him for a long time and he knows all about me and what I can bring with me.”
Meanwhile, Wrexham will entertain former Football League club Southport in the fourth round of the Setanta Shield.
While a date is yet to be confirmed between the clubs for the tie, the scheduled date for the fourth round is the week commencing Monday, December 1.
Blue Square North side Southport lost their League status in 1978, and lost out in a second ballot to Wigan Athletic after the sides had drawn the first poll.
The Sandgrounders are presently second in the table, behind Tamworth on goal difference, and earned their place in the fourth round of the Shield with a 2-1 win at Stafford Rangers.
Silkmen snap up Wrexham defender
Brown joined Wrexham from Lincoln City in the close season |
Macclesfield Town have signed defender Nat Brown on a one-month loan from Blue Square Premier side Wrexham.
Silkmen boss Keith Alexander told the club website: "Nat's a confident lad with a lot of ability and presence.
"He's also versatile and can play in the centre of midfield as well. The fact he knows some of the lads in the squad already is a big help."
The 27-year-old, who joined Wrexham in the summer from Lincoln, is eligible to play for Macclesfield in the FA Cup.Thursday, November 06, 2008

Dean Saunders Transfers
Dean Saunders Transfers since becoming Wrexham manager in October 2008
Monday 8th Jun 2009Kyle Is Latest To Leave
DEFENDER Kyle Critchell has agreed a deal which will see him leave the club with immediate effect, despite having a season left on his current contract, the necessary paperwork will be completed shortly.
The 22-year-old Wales U21 international had progressed through the youth and reserve teams at Southampton and also enjoyed a loan spell with Torquay United.
He left for Chesterfield in 2007 and was released by them after half a season, when he moved to Weymouth, his hometown club.
A move to Wrexham followed last summer, but he was suspended for the first three games of the season (following a red card in his final match with Weymouth) and then picked up an injury in training at the end of August.
After recovering from this ankle problem four months later, he said he was looking to be loaned out to help improve his first team chances at Wrexham. Joining fellow Conference side York City on a month's loan in early January 2009.
He was due to make his debut a day later against former club Weymouth, but the match was postponed due to the bad weather, before eventually made his first appearance after playing in the 2-1 victory over Oxford United ten days later.
His loan was extended for a second month on 4 February and finished with him making 11 appearances for the Minstermen.
Coming back to Wrexham in early March, Kyle then rejoined his local side Weymouth on loan until the end of the season. Playing eight times while with Weymouth, one bright spot as the Terras were relegated to the Conference South.
In total, Kyle only played two games for the Dragons, both last August.
He leaves with our best wishes and we hope he will soon be settled with a new club.

Nat Brown has revealed he wants to leave the club so he can get first team football and not just sit and languish in the reserves. Personally I don`t think Matt has had much of a look in at Wrexham and maybe if he had had a decent look in then he would have made the centre back position his own as every time I saw him play, he always played quite a decent game so not sure if I am glad he is leaving or gutted. It`s one of them.
Tuesday 4th June 2009
Mark has signed a 12 month contract with a clause in it, which states that if after 4 months he has not done enough then Wrexham can tear up his contract and send Mark on his way.
Tuesday 19th May 2009
Levi Macken & Shaun Walley have both been released by Wrexham manager Dean Saunders. Both of them spent most of last season on loan at York City and Southport respectively but have been told they are no longer required at Wrexham. I am glad to see them both go as I thought both of them were uselesss footballers and have been very fortunate to be given a chance to play football for a living. If I was them I suggest they start looking for a proper job because they never going to make a decent living out of football as they are not good enough.
14th May 2009
Nathan Fairhurst joins Wrexham full time.
MIDFIELD player Nathan Fairhurst believes he has made the right choice by joining Wrexham, rather than staying with Championship club Preston North End.
The 19-year-old says the opportunity to play regular first team football with the Dragons is a better option rather than sit on the bench or play reserve team football at Preston where he was offered a new contract. I wish Nathan all the best and am sure that if he has a successful season then there will be a host of clubs trying to get his signature as he is too good to be playing non league football for more than a season.

Jefferson Louis has left Wrexham by mutual consent with a year still left on his contract. The laziest footballer I have ever had the misfortune to watch play for Wrexham
Wednesday 29th April 2009
Gavin Ward - Keeper near the end of his career who served us well for 2 years.
Christian Gyan - The only match I seen him play, he was subbed at half time as he was shocking.
Anthony Williams - People claim he kept Wrexham in the league the season they beat Boston on the last day but he played about 12 games after coming in on loan and he was very lucky as all the shots in those 12 games came at a decent height and mae him look a better keeper than he was. Useless and good riddance.
Chris Marriott - Never saw him play.
Simon Spender - The promise he had as a youngster was never seen and was not good enough for Wrexham. Only reason he got a run in the team because Brian Little and Brian Carey don`t have a clue about playing football the proper way and thought he was the answer to someone with a bit of skill taking on players.

Collin (pictured) joined Gretna from Spanish La Liga club Mallorca in August 2007, signing a two-year contract with the club, but he only made 19 appearances before he was released by the then-SPL club before the end of last season. Trials at Championship clubs Blackpool, Preston North End and Wolves failed to lead to a permanent deal being offered, and Collin signed a one-year contract at Greek Premier League side Panserraikos. "He's played at a higher level, he's aggressive and he's another centre half," said Wrexham manager Dean Saunders, who saw defenders Steve Evans and Shaun Pejic leave the club my mutual consent this week.
Christian Gyan (born 1978-11-02 in Tema) is a Ghanaian footballer who currently plays for Wrexham. Gyan signed for Feyenoord Rotterdam in 1996. He replaced the suspended Brett Emerton in the starting eleven. With Gyan Feyenoord went on to beat Dortmund 3-2. While at Feyenoord Gyan also won a Dutch League Championship and a Johan Cruijff Schaal.Gyan played 23 games for the national team of Ghana. In June 2008 Gyan completed a successful trial for the Finnish club Turun Palloseura, and he signed a 6-month deal with TPS on 3 June. Wrexham sign winger Jamie McCluskey
Feb 13 2009 By Mark Currie
Powered by PicsearchWrexham manager Dean Saunders yesterday strengthened his promotion-chasing squad by signing winger Jamie McCluskey and he is actively pursuing yet more targets to keep his players fresh for the final 10 weeks of the season.
Saunders said new boy McCluskey faced a battle for selection, but predicted he would quickly become a crowd-pleaser at the Racecourse.
"Jamie has joined us until the end of the season and if he does well we will give him a new deal next season.
"He has not played for a long time but the fans will love watching him. He is a very talented young player, but his first job is to force his way into the team. Once he has done that I’m sure he will become a crowd favourite."
McCluskey, at one time the youngest ever player to feature in the Scottish Premier League when at Hibernian, hopes his move to the Racecourse will finally launch a career blighted by injury. A twice-broken foot was at the root of the problem, but the 21-year old Scot is optimistic that the worst is behind him.
"I have only been here a week and a half and I’ve only trained with the other lads for three days," he said.
"This is a big opportunity for me to get back to playing regular football and I owe that to the manager and his staff who have all been great with me. I have been to Partizan Belgrade in Serbia and Catania in Italy, but I have not played for a year.
"Wrexham are obviously doing well, but I would not have signed for them unless I felt I had something to offer and I’ll be doing my best to break into the first team as quickly as possible."
Wrexham FC sign Andrew Crofts
Feb 18 2009 by Mark Currie, Daily Post
DEAN SAUNDERS has lured Wales star Andrew Crofts to the Racecourse – but the midfielder couldn’t prevent Wrexham slipping to a 2-1 defeat at Burton Albion last night.
Crofts, who has 12 international caps, made his debut in the Pirelli Stadium loss after completing a whirlwind loan switch from League Two side Gillingham hours before the game.
The signing provided Saunders some consolation after watching his side throw away a 1-0 advantage against the league leaders, with Jefferson Louis opening the scoring on 23 minutes.
And the manager believes Crofts has a glittering career ahead of him, having watched the midfielder at close quarters while on international duty with Wales.
In dispute with his club Gillingham, where his contract expires at the end of the season, the 24-year old has joined the Dragons until the end of the season in order to play regular first team football.
And the Racecourse boss is delighted to have secured the player’s services for Wrexham’s bid to bounce back into the Football League at the first attempt.
“He’s coming to help us in this final push for promotion,” said Saunders.
“I know his qualities from working with him at Wales and this boy could end up playing in the Premiership. He played against Holland last summer, where he made a good impression on the coaching staff.
“This is a major coup for us and shows the ambition of the chairman and myself in trying get Wrexham promoted out of this league.
“Andrew’s presence brings experience and strength to the squad and he will bring the best out of our younger players. He is a good, solid character and certainly no fancy-dan player because he rolls his sleeves up and gets stuck in.
“Andrew will definitely move onto better things. But it shows the boy’s character that he is will to come and help a Welsh club in the short term. He really is doing us a big favour.
“Both John Toshack and myself advised the player that a move to Wrexham would be a big help to both him and Welsh football.”
Crofts has also won under 19 and under 21 honours and was Gillingham’s player of the year last season. He made nearly 200 appearances for the Kent club, scoring 17 goals.
Wrexham have been busy in the transfer market again, albeit only on loan. A new goalkeeper which we need and another central defender which we definitely don`t need. A striker is what we desperately require but can`t seem to get one. Wrexham are in line to parade a new goalkeeper at Histon after International clearance was given to Gunnar Nielsen. The 22year old stopper has been signed until the end of the season from Manchester City, Gunnar is the third player Wrexham have acquired from City this season, following in the steps of Angelos Tsiaklis and Sam Williamson. The 6'3" stopper began his career with HB Torshavn, before moving to BK Frem Copenhagen in 2005. After making five Appearances, Gunnar was signed by Premier League Blackburn Rovers in July 2007 for an undisclosed fee. While at Rovers, he had a six month loan spell with Scottish Premier League outfit Motherwell, before moving onto Manchester City in a two and a half year deal. Obviously Mark hughes must rate him highly to bring him to Man City from Blackburn seeing as Man City already have two excellent goalkeepers. At 6 foot 3 he should be able to handle anything in the air which is what we desperately need. How many times have we lost to set pieces is un-real so hopefully this should put a stop to that. Assoumani signs for DragonsWrexham have announced the signing of defender Mansour Assoumani for the remainder of the season.Mansour is 28,and was born in Nice, France. He is 6 feet 2 inches and can play in central defence or right back. Assoumani began his career with French club Montpellier, making 74 appearances and scoring 4 goals in a five year stay. He has also played for German second division clubs Saarbrucken and Sportfreunde Siegen. In December 2008, Assoumani was offered a one month contract with First division Leeds United. He made one appearance while at Elland road, Playing in the 3-1 defeat against Milton Keynes Dons.Mansour was released by Leeds in January 2009, and trained with Crewe Alexandra but failed to secure a contract. At last we have some real height in our defence which is what we desperately required. I have now lost count of the number of players we have signed permanently or got on loan in the last two years. Surely we must be talking over 50 players. Geoff Moss surely must be congratulated on the money he has spent since taking over at Wrexham or sent to the nearest mental institution and strapped to the chair for his own well being and mental health because let`s face it, who else would have ploughed the amount of money into Wrexham during the last year or so. We must have had more players than Pamela Anderson has had ,well you know what she has had.
